We’ve heard from a few overseas sources that Apple Retail stores are planning ‘overnights’ on July 13th. Overnights are generally where Apple refreshes store displays and trains up management on new products. Sometimes it is big stuff and sometimes it is insignificant (at least to us). July 13th, however, lines up with our Lion release date pretty nicely. We’re expecting the Lion release obviously, and also some new MacBook Airs which may or may not have faster storage (but not this fast), a Sandy Bridge CPU, HD Facetime cam and Thunderbolts coming out the side....

The company notes that despite the growing use of video on demand services, live TV still dominates, accounting for 84% of all viewing against 14.9% time-shifted TV and just 1.1% video on demand. However, this is very much driven by demographics: Millennials and Gen X spend more time watching digital media than live TV. It was reported over the weekend that Apple hasn’t entirely abandoned its plans to sell a streaming TV bundle, but is currently focusing on a ‘premium TV bundle‘ comprising HBO, Showtime, and Starz....

Nearly a month after the release of the first-generation Apple Watch with Watch OS 1.0, a proven source has disclosed a collection of upcoming Apple Watch software and hardware updates. Currently in development, the features seek to enhance Apple Watch security, connectivity with other Apple devices, health and fitness features, Wi-Fi capabilities, and integration with third-party applications. Additionally, Apple is also priming major updates for the Apple TV in both the hardware and software departments, including Apple Watch integration....

Apple has released iOS 10.1.1 for iPhones and iPad, less than a week since the iOS 10.1 update which included iPhone 7 Portrait Mode. The bug fixes a specific issue with the Health app, where data was not showing for some users. There may also be improvements to other niggling issues, which are alluded to (“bugs”, plural) but only the Health fix is explicitly referenced in the release notes. The update is available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users....

iTunes 11.4 has been released following Apple’s announcement that iOS 8 will be available next week. The GM seed of the software is available now for developers, and the new iTunes update enables syncing with devices running the mobile update. Many users on OS X Yosemite trying to install the iOS 8 GM seed have run into a serious issue, however. The current version of iTunes 12 crashes after erasing a user’s device, leaving them stranded in DFU mode with no way to actually get back to a usable state (unless they have a Mavericks machine handy)....

Apple has released macOS 11.2.3 today and the build comes with important security updates that Apple is recommending for all users. A Safari security update is also available for Mojave and Catalina users. While Apple is beta testing macOS Big Sur 11.3, it released a public update today with 11.2.3. Seemingly overshadowed by the chaos of iPhone 7 launch week were a pair of articles that highlight an alleged “very toxic atmosphere” at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters. An article from Mic pointed to a variety of instances of alleged sexism and inappropriate behavior. Now, Recode has sat down with Apple’s head of human resources Denise Young Smith to discuss the issues raised in the article and what Apple is doing to combat them....

After a US District judge found Apple guilty of fixing e-book prices, All Things D is reporting that the settlement trial will be set for May. A report earlier this month from GigaOM estimated that Apple could have to pay up to $500 million in consumer damages based on what the five publishers have paid through state and class action cases, but there was no financial related settlements included in the DOJ’s remedy proposal published earlier this month....

As you will notice the vibrate switch is a bit narrower and longer to fit the Verizon iPhone 4’s modified button layout. The updated Bumper ships in new packaging with a white backing (shown in the video) versus a grey backing on the white Bumper or a backing that matches the respective Bumper’s case color....

Protestor Feng Kung was handing out leaflets urging Apple employees to spill the beans on Nvidia for “allegedly covering up video-card defects,” Wired informs. Nvidia acknowledged a common defect in some of its video cards on July 2. These problems even extended to relatively recent models of MacBook Pro, Apple confirmed last week, saying: “In July 2008, Nvidia publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors due to a packaging defect....

In addition to launching refreshes to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, Apple has lowered the cost of higher-end Mac solid state storage options, cutting the price in half for many of the configurations. For example, the 4 TB SSD of the 512 GB 15-inch MacBook Pro used to cost $2800. It now costs $1,400. These savings are seen across the iMac, iMac Pro, Mac mini, and MacBook Air line....

Apple has taken over the front of its homepage to highlight a new section on its website rounding up photos taken around the world by the iPhone 6/6 Plus’s camera. The website highlights several photographs taken across the globe, from places like Halong Bay (Vietnam), Pamplona (Spain), and The Cairngorms (Scotland). Alongside each piece of media, Apple includes a brief blurb describing the photo as well as the name of the application in which the photo or video was taken....

On one hand, the agreement dangled the loss of “future business opportunities that Apple and/or its affiliates may present to you” as a potential consequence of violating or not signing the agreement. On the other hand, signing and following it could lead to months-long delays in making accessories like cases available, during the time of year when those cases were most needed and demanded by customers. Apple last week confirmed that Apple TV+ will launch to the public in over 100 countries on November 1st. Following that announcement, the first Apple TV+ original TV show has premiered this weekend at the Tribeca TV Festival. During today’s football games, Apple released its first TV ad with the same affinity for the ‘Midas model’. The videos were filmed by iPhone owners in four different cities across the world: Anchorage, AK; Haleiwa, HI; Salar de Uyuni, Boliva; and two from Hewiia, Papua New Guinea. Apple debuted the award-winning campaign earlier this year with a handful of photos and videos taken on the latest iPhone model and has continued to update it with new entries over the past four months....

Now would be a bad time to be a developer of an iPhone panoramic camera app. It appears that Apple will be allowing users to take panoramic photos in the photo app, if the code we’ve discovered below proves to make it into the final iOS 5 release. We’re not sure if/how to make it work or if it makes panoramas stitching together photos or making a movie. IF you’ve figured out how to get it to work, were all ears....

Apple has released the first software update to iOS 11 with iOS 11.0.1 for iPhone and iPad. The build comes in at 15A402 (or 15A403), up from 15A372 for iOS 11.0. As a bug fix and performance improvements update, we don’t expect any feature changes in this release. These updates typically make everything run smoother and potentially help with battery life and any lingering bugs. iOS 11.0.1 comes one week after the launch of iOS 11....

With an official introduction of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator today, the vehicle becomes the latest that will include Apple’s in-dash CarPlay system standard. The CarPlay functionality is built-into the vehicle’s 12-inch display that runs Ford’s SYNC 3 platform, and also includes Android Auto support. Optional 10-inch adjustable rear seat displays are available for beaming content from the front console to passengers in the back. Lincoln also has a deal with Sling that lets owners view live TV channels via a Slingbox product at home....
