Apple today has released new Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. They are available to order now from Apple’s online store for $129. The Smart Battery Cases are available in three colors, including black, white, and pink sand. They are priced at $129 for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The first orders are slated to arrive by Monday, November 25....

The Apple Research app has received an update today that brings two notable changes with one of them being focused on taking into account how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting daily life for those in the Apple Heart and Movement Study. Apple launched its Research app back in November last year for those in the US. Three studies were made available to participate in to advance important health research: Apple Hearing Study, Apple Heart and Movement Study, and the Apple Women’s Health Study....

Apple announced two new iPads this morning, finally updating the iPad mini and bridging the gap between its entry-level and high-end models with a new iPad Air. For the first time, both new product lines gain Apple Pencil support, while also being the first new models since the sixth-generation 2018 iPad to feature Logitech Crayon support. The Logitech Crayon is an alternative to the Apple Pencil, which uses some of the same technology as Apple’s stylus and comes with tilt support, yet lacks pressure-sensitivity....

After reducing iPhone prices in China to help boost demand, Apple’s price cuts reportedly continue in India, with discounts on iPhone XR models totalling around 25%. Apple said during its most recent earnings report that it would be reducing iPhone prices in countries to compensate for shifting currency exchange rates … Reuters reports that the price has not yet changed on Apple’s website, but the lower price is being offered in authorized reseller stores....

Nearly one month after the initial seed, Apple has provided developers with a second beta release of the upcoming OS X 10.9.2. The new build is labeled as version 13C39, and it is available via both Software Update in the Mac App Store for those running the first beta and from Apple’s online developer portal. The first 10.9.2 seed added enhancements to both the Messages and FaceTime applications, allowing for FaceTime Audio calls....

Apple has shared a new video on its YouTube channel this evening featuring director Jia Zhangke talking about Smart HDR. Last month, Apple shared a Shot on iPhone video directed by Zhangke in celebration of Chinese New Year. Apple said at the beginning of the month that it would fulfill all May Apple Watch orders with the exception of Space Black Link Bracelets by the middle of the month, then begin selling some models in retail stores for the first time. We’re hearing now that some Apple Retail Stores are preparing to begin limited in-store sales as soon as this week ahead of the Apple Watch’s expansion into seven more countries next Friday, and there will be a small perk for those who’ve waited… Apple Retail Stores appear to be preparing to carry mostly Apple Watch Sport models and in limited quantities to start, according to multiple sources....

Bud Tribble, an old time Jobs confidant and Apple’s vice president of software technology, testified today before members of the US Congress on the company’s privacy and location gathering practices. Tribble, an engineer that helped design the Mac operating system and user interface (also a Sun an NeXT veteran), appeared for a hearing led by Senator Al Franken who took the matter public in the first place. Barron’s reports that Tribble re-iterated Apple’s official stance on the issue, which is that the company doesn’t track its users and has no plans to ever do so in the future....

Apple TV users may notice a new coat of paint on the NFL app today. That’s because the set-top box’s NFL channel has received a major update that adds the new Game Pass feature for football fans. We first learned last month that the NFL’s Game Pass service was headed to Apple TV. Game Pass on Apple TV currently offers up both live and on demand preseason football games both in full and condensed versions for subscribers, plus highlights from each game that anyone can view for free....

Bloomberg reports that multiple industry analysts are expecting Apple to cross the 600,000 sales mark for the iPad 2 during this launch weekend. This compares to the 300,000 WiFi-only original iPads sold on launch day on April 3, 2010. Brian Marshall, an analyst at Gleacher & Co expects Apple’s second generation iPad to “outpace” the original model. Tim Bajarin, an analyst at Creative Strategies Inc. and Rodman & Renshaw LLC and Piper Jaffray & Co....

We got to see an unofficial hands-on video of the iPhone X last week, thanks to a YouTube vlog shot by the daughter of an Apple engineer. The video was shot within Caffè Macs on Apple’s campus, and there were signs that it was not approved by Apple. That appears to be confirmed by a tearful follow-up video in which Brooke Peterson says that her father has now been fired by Apple …...

Last week, Apple announced that its Q4 2016 earnings call would take place on Thursday, October 27th. Today, however, Apple updated its Investor News webpage to reveal that, due to a “scheduling conflict,” the earnings call and release have been moved up to Tuesday, October 25th. It’s unclear what has arisen to cause Apple to move the date of its earnings release. This isn’t the first time the company has done so, though....

After carriers and retailers dropped the price of the iPhone in recent weeks ahead of the sixth-generation iPhone launch, MacRumors found this morning that Apple retail stores were given the go-ahead to price match the iPhone to other outlets by as much as $49.01. Like most price-matching programs, customers will assumedly have to present proof of lower pricing before Apple takes the money off. The price matching looks to be only taking place in retail stores and not on Apple’s online store....

Despite announcing plans to buy Shazam last December, Apple still doesn’t own the music recognition service due to pending regulatory approval in Europe. With the deadline for an investigation into the acquisition set for September 4, Reuters is reporting that a decision in favor of Apple is likely. Citing anonymous sources, Reuters says the deal will likely be approved without conditions. The European Commission launched an ‘in-depth’ four month investigation into the proposed deal before allowing or blocking Apple’s takeover of Shazam back in April....

One of the headlining aspects of Apple Music when it launched in 2015 was its three-month free trial, allowing users a lengthy amount of time to try the service before agreeing to subscribe. This week, however, Apple has seemingly stopped offering the three-month free trial in Australia, Spain, and Switzerland… As noted on each country’s Apple Music webpage, Apple is now charging a small fee for 3 months of Apple Music, apparently not offering any sort of free trial....

Following the release of iOS 14.3 last month, Apple today stopped signing both iOS 14.2 and iOS 14.2.1 — which was only available for iPhone 12 models. That means users who have updated their devices to iOS 14.3 can no longer downgrade to iOS 14.2.
