Digitimes this morning is reporting that Foxconn (aka, Hon Hai Precision) has won the manufacturing contract, rather than Apple’s long-term Mac maker, Quanta. This figures as Foxconn is also Apple’s iPod/iPhone product manufacturer, and suggests at least that this tablet will be a larger sibling in that side of the Apple family. (Recall, there have been some claims of two tablets on Apple’s road map, one running OS X, the other running a variant of the OS X Mobile found on iPhones and the iPhone touch)....

The Apple TV+ streaming service is launching this fall, with original shows in tow. It’s been just over a decade since Apple first took steps to incorporate their Apple TV concept into their already diverse and highly popular line of personal electronics. Though originally intended to join the company’s other “i”-based products as iTV, the name was changed to Apple TV shortly after being unveiled, as a result of legal threats from UK broadcast network ITV....

Apple has updated its general construction schedule for its new Campus 2 site, pushing back its estimated end date for building construction by three months and noting the start of landscaping work expected to last into the second quarter of next year. Apple’s previous construction schedule listed an expected end date for building construction and street utility work as the end of Q3 of this year. The updated schedule extends that three months until the start of 2017....

Sources close to Apple’s manufacturing and supply chain (via DIGITIMES) claim Apple, along with others from the “non-Apple camp”, is prepping to produce devices that include curved glass, specifically touchscreens, in early 2012. The report notes that other companies were expected to use curved cover glass in “attempts to gain a competitive edge” over Apple in the current iPhone and iPad dominated smarpthone and tablet markets. We’ve certainly heard of the company’s plans for curved glass in Apple’s retail stores and their new spaceship campus, but only heard rumors and speculation regarding possible consumer product applications....

Apple has released the first iOS 11.1 beta for developer testing on iPhone and iPad. We’ll update with what changes are included as soon as the new releases are installed on our devices. Features we’ll be watching for include Apple Pay Cash, AirPlay 2, and Messages in iCloud which were all announced but not included in iOS 11.0. Apple has also released watchOS 4.1, tvOS 11.1, and macOS High Sierra 10....

As expected, Apple just released iOS 6.1.2 with a fix for the Exchange bug in iOS 6.1 that we previously reported. The 107mb update is available OTA and comes with build number 10B146 .We reported earlier this month that AOL had informed its corporate employees via email that it would temporarily disable the ability to manage meetings with Exchange on iOS devices running iOS 6.1. AOL confirmed it was working with Microsoft and Apple to fix the “continuous loop” bug, and many had highlighted the problem on Microsoft’s forums....

Apple today released iPadOS 13.1 for iPad. Head to Settings -> General -> Software Update to get the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system for your tablet. Also, Apple’s latest iPad is shipping tomorrow, with iPadOS. iPadOS includes all of the same features as iOS 13 like Dark Mode, the redesigned Photos experience, Messages profiles, and a new Reminders app. iPadOS also boasts some tablet-exclusive changes like updates to the Home screen, new multitasking capabilities, and much more…...

Alongside macOS High Sierra 10.13.3, released today, Apple has also issued Security Update 2018-001 for macOS Sierra and macOS El Capitan. This update also fixes other serious security vulnerabilities, including an issue that could cause an application to run arbitrary code using kernel privileges by exploiting a vulnerability on the IOHIDFamily API. It also patches an issue that could lead to arbitrary code execution when playing a malicious sound file....

Apple has started sending out push notification reminders to users who are eligible to redeem a free year of Apple TV+, but have not yet done so. The notification reads: “Expiring Soon: Your Free of Apple TV+”. Apple is also sending out email alerts in the same vein. As a reminder of the terms of the free Apple TV+ deal, customers must activate the one year free trial within 3 months of activating their newly purchased device....

Apple is releasing a new developer beta of iOS 13.6 today. This follows last week’s release of an iOS 13.5.5 beta to developers and public beta users. Apple is renaming the beta and referring to today’s release as iOS 13.6 beta 2. [Update: Now available for public beta users as well.] This is not the first time Apple has changed the numbering of a beta iOS release. Just last month, we jumped from iOS 13....

Re/code reports that Apple will hold its October event, featuring iPads, on October 16th. According to John Paczkowski, the event will feature updates to Apple’s iPad line, OSX 10.10 Yosemite as well as the new Retina iMacs that we reported on earlier this week. Mac mini updates would be nice too. The event will also feature Yosemite, assumedly the OS will be released soon after the event, if Apple follows historic patterns....

The apple.com homepage received a bit of an update today with the site highlighting two new additions to the company’s ongoing ‘Your Verse’ campaign. Apple’s two new Your Verse spots for the iPad Air include one profile of musicians in Chinese group Yaoband and another of co-founder of the Slow Roll city bike ride Jason Hall. Like past campaigns, Apple’s microsites for the two new profiles include several videos showing how the both of the subjects are using iPad in their daily work....

Apple today announced that Mythic Quest, Apple TV+’s first scripted comedy series, will debut on the platform February 7. The show stars Rob McElhenney as the creative director of a video game studio. All nine episodes will be available on the premiere date. The news follows yesterday’s announcement of a five-part documentary series for Valentines Day. In terms of new content for January, Apple TV+ (so far) has only announced the Little America anthology, debuting January 17....

We’re just over 24 hours away from the kickoff of Apple’s big iPhone 7 keynote, and the company is reminding Apple TV owners that you can easily view the show from home with the Apple Events channel. The Apple TV app refreshed over the long weekend with bokeh artwork used to promote tomorrow’s Apple keynote. You can even use the channel to see a reminder for when the keynote kicks off in your local timezone....

Apple TV+ is continuing its awards run with a pickup of its first Peabody Award, a little over six months since the streaming service launched. The anachronistic comedy ‘Dickinson’ was one of ten winners in the Peabody 30’s entertainment category. The Peabody Awards are a prestigious industry accreditation. They particularly focus on television that has social and cultural impact, choosing ‘stories that matter’. The institution said that they were more than 1300 candidates this year, with Dickinson being one of 30 winners....

Apple is working to offer even more exclusive content on Apple TV+, as the company has now signed a new multi-year deal with screenwriter Mark Bomback. Bomback is the showrunner behind Defending Jacob, one of the shows available on Apple TV+. According to a Deadline report, Defending Jacob is considered one of the top three series premieres on Apple TV+. The show had good ratings on its premiere and kept the numbers elevated in its first 10 days....

Today, Apple released a new licensing scheme for K-12 and higher education. The new plan is aimed at reducing paperwork and headaches for school administrators while at the same time saving institutions money and making software audits easier. Interestingly, they’ve also bundled iLife and iWork into the basic OS package which will likely put the software on many more educational machines. Millions more. Until now iWork has been a separate purchase and often left off of lab computers and kiosks in favor of Microsoft Office....
