After a few months in beta, Apple has today released iOS 9 to the world for everyone with an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Download the update from Settings on your iOS device, then tap ‘General’ and select ‘Software Update’. The required free space for installing iOS 9 is a lot lower than iOS 8, at around 1.3 GB, which should make it easier to upgrade your devices right away. Any device that runs iOS 8 can upgrade to iOS 9 and, naturally, iOS 9 will also ship preinstalled on Apple’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus when they are released next week....

While iOS 14 and other Apple software are now available to the public, macOS Big Sur will remain in beta testing for a bit longer. Apple has just released the seventh beta release of macOS Big Sur to developers following this week’s special event. macOS Big Sur brings a redesigned user interface to the Mac, as well as a new Messages app with screen effects, Control Center, new widgets, and much more....

Adam Pash, former lead editor of Lifehacker, reports that Apple has acknowledged a problem we’ve heard reported before: text messages continue to be converted to iMessages and forwarded to an Apple ID even when that ID is no longer in use. This means that any text messages sent from an iPhone are reported as delivered while actually disappearing into the ether. This is a problem a lot of people are facing....

In March this year, Apple introduced a $329 9.7-inch iPad for the first time. Digitimes reports today that the company could go even lower next year, with Apple apparently planning a new 9.7-inch iPad in the $259 price range. The report says Apple wants to push this even cheaper tablet towards price conscious markets, such as industrial enterprise deployments as well as regular price-sensitive consumers. Apple’s iPad business has faced some rough quarters in recent years....

New year, new Apple … and an agreement with former GPU chip supplier Imagination Technologies. That’s according to a brief announcement from the British chipmaker. The development comes after months of public disputes between the two companies, Imagination employees being poached by Apple, and Imagination being sold to new owners. The timeline Apple warned Imagination in 2017 that it would stop relying on its graphics processing units used in iPhones and iPads within two years....

Apple is continuing to tweak its Apple Watch showroom experience within Apple Stores. Upon the initial rollout of the Apple Watch in April, Apple Stores installed large glass tables as a showcase for the different Apple Watch variations. Customers could test drive the Apple Watch via a demo unit connected to an iPad mini or try it on at a series of try-on stations. Following a pilot program across select Apple Stores across the world, Apple has now begun a widespread rollout of a new Apple Watch testing program called Mobile Try-On, according to Apple Retail employees....

The removal of a game from Apple’s Chinese App Store has revealed that the Cupertino company has been failing to enforce government licensing laws introduced back in 2016 … The game Plague Inc was removed from the App Store last week after the Chinese government said that it was illegal. The game wasn’t in the best of taste, the idea being to design a plague that will spread and wipe out the population of the world....

ZDNet just published a story claiming Apple’s percentage of revenue has “been on the decline for years”. The story claims that percentage is currently 2.2 percent of sales which seems pretty low compared to other technology players (especially when Apple is so innovative). But this isn’t factoring in how items such as a reported $200 million investment in Siri technology, a new CEO, and investments in the company’s 175-acre Spaceship campus contribute to overall growth…...

Research firm IDC is out today with new data on the state of the tablet and 2-in-1 market in the first quarter of 2014. As you might expect after Apple’s most recent earnings report, Q1 unit shipments of iPad were down by 3 million from 19.5 million to 16.4 million between 2013 and 2014. For its part, Apple attributes its Q1 2013 iPad sales as inflated due to demand for iPad mini in Q4 2012 being fulfilled in the following quarter when supply was less constrained....

As noted by Bloomberg, The United States International Trade Commission (ITC) has blocked Apple’s request for an emergency ban on U.S. imports of HTC devices. Earlier this month, Apple filed the request for the immediate ban related to an Apple patent for parsing out phone numbers within text in its mobile device operating system, iOS. Apple specifically named the fairly new and notable HTC One S, One X, Flyer, and EVO 4G in the ban request, though all HTC products running Google’s Android operating system are covered....

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Design, Sir Jonathan Ive, has just purchased a 7,274-square-foot house on San Francisco’s “Gold Coast”. The well-known executive, given credit or designing a slew of Apple products, paid $17 million for the home that is said to be located on “one of the city’s most exclusive blocks.” Ive joined Apple in 1996, and he has since played a crucial role in the company....

Today, Apple announced that its video subscription service, Apple TV+, will be available starting November 1 and priced at just $4.99 per month. As well as iOS devices, Macs, Apple TV, Samsung TVs, and more, Apple TV+ content can also be watched on the web. The web app will go live at tv.apple.com when Apple TV+ launches. Apple TV+ is launching with a small library, adding new original TV shows and movies each month....

After arriving on Chromecast with Google TV earlier this year, Apple TV is further expanding its reach on Android TV devices. Starting today, Apple TV is available on Nvidia Shield. The arrival of Apple TV on Shield gives more users access to the iPhone-maker’s growing streaming service, Apple TV+, which includes hits such as Ted Lasso, Mythic Quest, The Morning Show, and several other series. Apple TV app is now available on all Android TV devices, too As Nvidia points out, Shield TV’s port of Apple TV includes support for Dolby Vision and 4K content....

The Eurasian database has turned up hit after hit recently. Once more, ahead of Apple’s October 30 event, the Eurasian Economic Competition database has listed filings for new Mac models running macOS 10.14. Four of these model identifiers relate to as-yet-unannounced machines. As spotted by Consomac, the A1932 laptop model was seen in an earlier filing. The three new Mac models likely relate to new versions of the Mac Mini and iMac....

Apple has released the first iOS 10.3 public beta for testing on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 10.3.2 public beta 1 follows one day after the first developer version of the upcoming software update. Apple’s public beta program is free to participate in unlike its paid developer program. iOS 10.3.2 will be released to everyone in the future, and the public beta allows more users to test pre-release versions of the software update before it’s finalized....

Apple has released the fourth developer betas of iOS 14.7 and iPadOS 14.7 today. The company is also rolling out watchOS 7.6 developer beta 4, as well as tvOS 14.7 developer beta 4. The Apple Store has come back online following Apple’s media event that just wrapped up in San Francisco. We’ve gotten a look at several smaller products from Apple, and we’ve found one more. For the Euro-folk, Apple has released a Lightning to Micro USB adapter, available for £15.00 and shipping within three days. Presumably the fine men and women of Cupertino have made the adapter available to comply with certain regulations regarding the Micro-USB standard....
