Update: Apple has also released macOS Catalina beta 9 to developers. Apple today has released the first developer beta of watchOS 6.1 to testers. This comes after the release of watchOS 6 to the public last week for Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple Watch Series 4. Apple tomorrow will release iPadOS and iOS 13.1 to the public, but we don’t yet have a release date for watchOS 6.1. We’re also still waiting on watchOS 6 for the Series 1 and Series 2 and macOS Catalina, both of which are coming later this fall....

Apple has released a special ‘Shot on iPhone’ TV commercial for European markets called ‘The beautiful game’. It features iPhone photography of football stadiums, goalposts and players. The ad will likely air during the UEFA European Football Championship games, which kicks off tomorrow … Apple says the ad shows off the ‘beauty of football, captured by fans and their iPhones’ and features the music single ‘Wings’ by Little Sims. The ad uses photos and videos from a variety of photographers … who should now expect a memento from California come holiday season....

Following the release of the fourth iOS 14.2 beta yesterday, Apple today released watchOS 7.1 beta 4 for developers. It’s unclear what’s new in watchOS 7.1, so Apple is most likely improving the performance of the Apple Watch operating system in general. What is interesting in today’s release, however, is that Apple has made two different builds available for the same update. watchOS 7.1 beta 4 is available as 18R5585a and 18R5586a builds....

This new beta is actually considered beta 2 because it follows the same train of the previous iOS 12....

Audio software developer Camel Audio announced in January that it would be shutting down for good and removing its software from sale, but no one knew quite why. However, it now appears that the company has been acquired by Apple. Today Camel Audio updated some of its corporate information, including its address and directors, as listed on the UK government’s Companies House website. The new address is 100 New Bridge Street in London, which also happens to be the address of Apple’s UK offices....

As planned, Apple has announced its Q2 2013 earnings results. Apple reported revenues for Q2 of $43.6 billion, which beats Apple’s estimates for the quarter of between $41 and $43 billion. This revenue compares to a revenue of $39.2 billion in the year-ago Q2. Apple also reported net profit of $9.5 billion, or $10.09 per diluted share The Company sold 37.4 million iPhones in the quarter, compared to 35.1 million in the year-ago quarter....

Like it did last year, Apple’s participation in this year’s Worlds AIDS Day will include changing the iconic glowing white Apple logo that hangs outside its retail stores to red in order to raise awareness for the fight against AIDS. The new red Apple signage is already up at Apple’s Australian stores (pictured above) as we roll into Dec. 1 local time. This year, Apple has increased its contributions to the cause alongside the Product Red charity organization through a tie-in with its Black Friday promotions....

Apple today is rolling out the third beta of watchOS 4 to developer. The rollout comes following the release of the third betas of macOS High Sierra, tvOS 11, and iOS 11 earlier this week. Apple has just announced record quarterly earnings with $10.7 billion of operating profit. This revenue accumulation has resulted in Apple’s biggest ever cash hoard, now standing at $202 billion dollars. This is up from the record $194 billion level reported in the previous quarter and despite Apple giving away $13 billion to shareholders through its capital returns program. In general, having too much money is a good ‘problem’ to have. What shareholders will think of this new high is yet to be seen, who generally prefer if Apple invested that money in its business or returned to investors in its dividend, rather than leaving it doing ‘nothing’....

Apple’s recent move to allow applications developed using Adobe’s Flash Packager for iPhone tool for CS5 has had some effect, but only a “muted” one, claimed Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen during that company’s Q3 financial call. Adobe revenues hit $990.3 million in the quarter, up 42 percent on last year. Narayen talked up Flash mobile, saying, “Many smartphones, tablets and TVs are supporting the new Flash Player in the marketplace, including models from Google, Motorola, HTC, and Samsung,” he said, as noted by Mobile Entertainment News....

Apple’s entry price for its upcoming smaller iPad is between the base model of the new, fifth-generation iPod touch ($299) and the currently shipping WiFi-only 16GB iPad 2 ($399). According to our sources, the base model of the smaller iPad will likely be priced at a minimum of $329 in the United States. Two higher capacities of the smaller iPad will be available in the WiFi-only configuration. These will likely be priced at $100 premiums over each other at a minimum of $429 and $529....

Apple’s USB-C chargers have caused significant confusion over what they can and can’t power. For example, the 29W power brick can’t charge the MagSafe Duo, despite it drawing only 15W. Similarly, the 18W charger supplied with last year’s iPhone 11 Pro couldn’t – initially – charge the HomePod mini … Apple solved the latter problem last week with a software update, in version 14.3. Part of the issue is whether or not a charger supports a protocol known as USB-C Power Delivery, usually abbreviated to USB-C PD – and if so, which version?...

Apple has commented on the decision to limit the new MacBook Pro’s RAM to a maximum 16GB, informing a customer in an email that offering more would make for a compromised experience. Specifically, Apple says that more than 16GB of RAM “at this time would require a memory system that consumes much more power and wouldn’t be efficient enough for a notebook.” To put more than 16GB of fast RAM into a notebook design at this time would require a memory system that consumes much more power and wouldn’t be efficient enough for a notebook....

Apple’s Face ID unlocking feature on the iPhone X is a joy to use. It almost feels like there’s no passcode to your phone as it’s such a seamless experience. A new ad released by the company takes this to a literal extreme. The ad starts with a student unlocking their iPhone X with Face ID. But then she proceeds to unlock every locker as she walks down the hallway by simply looking at it, the core argument for Face ID over Touch ID....

Apple has announced it is holding its earnings call for company results in fiscal Q4 (covering July, August and September) on October 20th. Following tradition, Apple will announce earnings in a press release about half an hour before the earnings call at 2PM PST. Apple’s earnings for fiscal Q4 will include the first wave of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sales, as it went on sale towards the end of the period....

Apple has announced that it will power all of its operations in Singapore from solar energy, the first company in the city-state to do so. The scheme will also provide electricity to around 9,000 public-owned homes. CNET reports that Apple is partnering with local clean energy provide Sunseap. Retail head Angela Ahrendts also confirmed to The Strait Times earlier reports that it is opening its first Apple Store in Singapore, with hiring underway …...

There is nothing more frustrating than dropping your precious iPhone, picking it up, and then finding the darn thing completely cracked. Apple will happily replace a cracked iPhone 4S with a refurbished one, as long as you are signed up for the $99 Apple Care program. However, a new phone brings new changes. The folks at iMore, who have been on-key with Apple news in the past, report that broken iPhone 5 displays will physically be replaced in-store and no longer will customers be handed a refurbished device....

Apple TV+ original productions continue to receive critical acclaim. Apple’s streaming platform for movies and TV shows was nominated today for 19 Daytime Emmy Awards, in addition to the previously announced six nominations, resulting in 25 nominations this year. The Daytime Emmy Awards choose and recognize the best shows in daytime television programming. Apple TV+ has received nominations for shows like Long Way Up, Ghostwriter, and Helpsters for standing out as great content for children....
