Following the premiere of For All Mankind’s second season and the announcement of new episodes of Mythic Quest coming in May, Apple has just shared a new video highlighting the upcoming original movies and shows that will be part of the Apple TV+ catalog in 2021. The two-minute video was uploaded today to the official Apple TV channel on YouTube and features a glimpse of what’s coming next on Apple TV+, the company’s subscription streaming service....

Apple TV is receiving a flurry of new channels today. Most prominently is a brand new YouTube app, to bring the client up-to-date with some of the other platforms. The new app reflects the design of other set-top box clients, with easier access to subscriptions and search functions. For the security conscious, the YouTube app now uses OAuth to login rather than naive password entry (by visiting youtube.com/activate) Unfortunately, this YouTube update also means that Apple TV users will start seeing ads for the first time on the platform....

After some complaints about app discoverability for the new Apple TV App Store that launched late last month, Apple appears to be rolling out curated categories for the storefront not unlike its App Store on iPhone and iPad. The new categories currently only include lists for gaming and entertainment apps, but it’s likely the curated lists will expand into other categories as Apple continues to enhance curation on the newly launched App Store....

The Regent Street Apple Store has been closed for many months as it was undergoing major refurbishment works to modernize the interior. Apple has finally completed the work and the new store will be open to the public on Saturday, October 15. The press got an early look at the new appearance, as shown by these photos via Engadget. The glass staircase and most of the first floor have been removed to create a dramatic double-height “grand hall” replete with green trees bathed in natural light....

While Walmart remains among the list of stores stubbornly resisting Apple Pay, the retail giant is slowly pushing forward with its own mobile payment service called Walmart Pay. An update to Walmart’s mobile app added support for the digital wallet last month, and today the retailer announced that over 500 stores across two states now support Walmart Pay at checkout. Starting in 110 locations across Walmart’s home state of Arkansas and another 480 stores across the giant state of Texas, the retailer says Walmart Pay is now available at any checkout line within supported stores....

We have received several reports that users are experiencing repeated crashes when using the Apple Podcasts app on their iPhone today. During playback of shows, the app is inexplicably crashing as frequently as once every two minutes in what appears to be some kind of bug relating to how the Podcasts app syncs progress between devices. The issue seems to have been caused by some kind of server-side change on Apple’s part, as the crashes have only become prolific recently, weeks after Apple’s latest software update, iOS 13....

Apple has released a firmware update for the mid-2012 MacBook Air. The update attempts to resolve an issue that affects 64 GB and 128 GB models sold between June 2012 and June 2013. Apple says that the problem could lead to data loss. As this is a serious issue, the company has agreed to replace any affected drives that are unable to be updated. If the update installer detects that your drive is one of the models needing to be replaced, it will direct you to a page on Apple’s website that will allow you to obtain a replacement … Apple also warns that if you have an affected drive, you should not attempt to install any additional software or updates....

Following the release of iOS 14.2 and watchOS 7.1 to the public, Apple also released today HomePod software 14.2 and tvOS 14.2. Both updates bring bug fixes and improvements, including better home theater support for HomePods paired with Apple TV. HomePod has always been compatible with Apple TV through AirPlay technology, but now users can pair two HomePods on an Apple TV and set them as default audio devices to enjoy stereo and surround sound with Dolby Atmos....

Apple today has released a new beta of OS X 10.10.4 to both developers and public beta users. Last week, Apple released the fifth OS X 10.10.4 beta, as well as the first beta of OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Today’s new OS X 10.10.4 beta carries the build number 14E36b and is available through the Mac App Store and Mac Developer Center. As for a public release of OS X 10....

Apple may hold its annual developers conference and many press events in San Francisco, but the company’s campus is located about an hour southeast of the city in Cupertino. Despite naming its new custom font used on MacBook keyboards, watchOS, iOS 9, and OS X El Capitan after San Francisco, Apple is remaining in Cupertino for its larger Campus 2 currently being developed. But Apple has reportedly picked up some sizable office space in the city’s South Market neighborhood…...

Tim Cook’s Apple is no stranger to standing up for social issues including marriage equality. Almost a year ago to date, the company—not just Tim Cook—voiced public opposition to anti-gay legislation in Arizona which was surprisingly vetoed after weeks of public attention. The company also embraced last year’s annual Pride parade in San Francisco with an official video highlighting participation by thousand of employees and family members. There’s also Tim Cook’s widely praised essay published last year in which he first publicly acknowledged being gay—a first for a Fortune 500 chief executive....

According to a report from IDG, Sharp has not so surprisingly announced in its recent earnings report there is “‘material doubt’ about its ability to continue operating.” While Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn previously agreed to buy an 11-percent stake in the company, today’s report noted those negotiations continue to drag on and risk falling through as Sharp’s stock price continues dropping. To turn the company around, rumor has it Sharp will focus on its IGZO technology and displays for smartphones and tablets, while possibly seeking investments from Apple in the process:...

Apple has begun rolling out the third watchOS 3 beta to developers today. Those looking to update can head to the Watch app on their iPhones, select General and Software Update. watchOS 3 beta 3 is available to download as a Configuration Profile from the Apple developer center for newer users looking to test out the upcoming system. Release notes are not yet available, but should be up soon. watchOS 3 brings major speed improvements and new user experiences to the Apple Watch....

According to a new report today from Nikkei, Apple is going to reduce the production of iPhones by about 10% in the first quarter of 2017. The news comes after Flurry Analytics showed that Apple still maintains a lead in holiday activations. This isn’t the first time Apple has cut back on iPhone production as a similar event occurred this year in the January – March quarter. That cut on production was around 30%, which Nikkei Asian Review says was caused by slowing sales of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus....

The “Antennagate” scandal that “plagued” the launch of the iPhone 4 has been—for the most part—put to rest. Despite the fact that a settlement was ultimately reached in a class action lawsuit, which offered customers a free case or a $15 cash payout to United States iPhone owners, Apple maintained the issue only affected a small number of users that were simply holding the device wrong. You may have heard that research firm IDC in May decided to class iPad and other portable devices as PCs, forecasting PC microprocessor units by processor architecture, including those based on x86 (Intel and Advanced Micro Devices) and those based on ARM.
