A few weeks after Apple was granted a European trademark on the key design elements of its retail stores, the company has been awarded a U.S. patent on the iconic glass cube design of its Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan. Apple today has started offering another round of bonds to help pay for shareholder dividends and its stock buyback program. The latest offering will be for a total of $5 billion. Bloomberg reports that Apple’s latest $5 billion worth of bonds will be offered in four parts. A source close to the matter suggested the 30-year security portion of the bond may offer a ROI just a bit above Treasuries....

Apple has been using murals created by well-known artists to launch new Apple Store a lot recently. In Hangzhou, China the company debuted a calligraphy mural alongside a new retail location, while a store in Chongqing, China got a similar treatment. Earlier this month, Apple revealed that its upcoming retail location in Miami would launch with a mural designed by internationally acclaimed artist HENSE. Apple has finally released iOS 8.0.2 to address the issues discovered in yesterday’s 8.0.2 update on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The new release includes all of the HealthKit and keyboard fixes, among others, as well as the ability to actually make phone calls and connect to a cellular data network. Apple has released new beta versions of iOS, watchOS, macOS, and tvOS for developers to test. iOS 11.2.5, watchOS 4.2.2, macOS 10.13.3, and tvOS 11.2.5 beta 3 are all available now. We’ll update to the latest versions and note any changes below. The latest betas follow the official release of iOS 11.2.1 and tvOS 11.2.1 for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. We haven’t seen version numbers in between the official release and the beta release (so maybe these are placeholder numbers pending additional bug fix updates)....

Apple has reportedly ended its long-running credit card partnership with Barclays. The process of winding down the relationship started last year ahead of Apple launching Apple Card in the US. For many years, Barclays was the partner bank that Apple offered a rewards credit card. The partnership did continue on after Apple ended the Barclays Rewards Card last year with Apple promoting a basic Barclaycard Financing Visa. A small request for the Apple Store app … I mentioned recently dropping into an Apple Store to see whether they might be able to replace my broken Watch on the spot. It turned out they couldn’t, as they all need to go to the repair depot even when it’s obvious that a replacement will be needed. Everyone’s favorite hockey puck “hobby” has received a huge software update today. Apple TV 6.0, which has been in beta testing since June, brings with it iTunes Radio, AirPlay from iCloud, iCloud Photos and Videos (replacing Photo Stream), iTunes Music Store, and conference room mode. AirPlay from iCloud, which mirrors Google’s Chromecast, is a feature that must be turned on from the Settings. Once enabled, it allows you to “use your iOS device to play videos from iTunes in the Cloud”, which means the content is streamed directly to Apple TV rather than your iOS device....
The tvOS 13 update for Apple TV set-top boxes rolled out yesterday, and now Apple has started rolling out the new ‘under the sea’ screensavers produced in coordination with the BBC. There are ten new underwater ‘Aerial’ screensavers offering a beautiful look at corals, shoals of fish, and generally stunning imagery of sea life. Following last week’s release of iOS 14 to the general public, Apple released a bug fix update today in the form of iOS 14.0.1. Today’s update brings fixes for iOS 14 home screen widgets, default app settings, and more. Apple has also released iPadOS 14.0.1, watchOS 7.0.1, macOS Catalina 10.15.7, and tvOS 14.0.1. Apple also says that today’s release of iOS 14.0.1 includes a fix for the Apple News widget that caused images from appearing, as well as bug fixes related to WiFi connectivity and email sending with some mail providers....
Following the release to developers yesterday, Apple has released iOS 14.5 beta 2 to public beta users today. iOS 14.5 beta 2 makes continued refinements to the new features coming to iPhone and iPad users this spring.
