The ad is reminiscent of the “Photos Every Day” ad that debuted a few weeks ago. Like the previous photo-centric commercial, this ad is mostly void of a voiceover, simply showing a wide variety of iPhone users, and how they enjoy their music. Both of these ads take a different direction than previous iPhone commercials, highlighting not apps, but rather features of the device....

The 71st annual Emmy Awards are coming up in September and nominations have been announced today. Two of Apple’s ads, both made with the TBWA ad agency, have been nominated for Outstanding Commerical 2019. This year, the Emmys will be held on September 14 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. The news about nominations was announced on the Television Academy’s Emmys website. Apple’s two nominees for Outstanding Commerical are for Behind The Mac — Make Something Wonderful and Shot on iPhone XS — Don’t Mess With Mother....

Following the release of the second developer beta yesterday, Apple has released the second public beta of iOS 14.2 today. The update includes new emoji options for users, as well as tweaks to Control Center and more. In iOS 14.2, there are revamped now playing controls on the lock screen alongside redesigned AirPlay 2 controls in Control Center. Another one of the new changes in iOS 14.2 is a brand new Shazam toggle that can be added to Control Center....

A bit early than expected, Apple will release watchOS 8 public beta later today for all users who wants to preview Apple’s upcoming Watch operating system before its official release. During the WWDC21 keynote, Apple said it’s going to release iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS Monterey, tvOS 15, and watchOS 8 as public betas in July. One day before the start of July, Apple is already seeding the new operating system to all users who wants to try it out....

After almost 2 years without any updates, Apple’s iAd Gallery app has been pulled from the App Store. Originally introduced in April of 2011, the app was meant to showcase the best ads on the iAd Platform, Apple’s then relatively new mobile advertising push. However, the app received little attention after introduction, languishing in abandonment as it missed many milestones, such as the transition to 4″ display resolution and iOS 7 design changes....

Apple didn’t just announce a $5000 monitor during WWDC: it also announced an optional $1000 monitor stand to go with it. There wasn’t too much reaction to the $4999 starting price of the monitor itself, or even the $1000 premium for the low-reflectivity upgrade. This is a true reference-grade monitor designed for critical color work by photographers, videographers, and filmmakers. Similar monitors typically cost upwards of $10,000, and Apple compared it to one costing $43,000....

As noted on the official schedule website for the 2018 SXSW Conference & Festival held in Austin, TX, Apple’s Director of Global Accessibility Policy and Initiatives will make a public appearance at the annual event. On March 15th, Sarah Herrlinger will speak as part of a panel at the Innovations In Accessibility session during the conference’s Startup & Tech Sectors track. In a new post on its developer website today, Apple has announced that developers can now offer customized applications to education institutions through Apple School Manager. According to Apple, developers can identify organizations via App Store Connect, and give those organizations the ability to purchase the customized app via Apple School Manager in volume. Apple also notes that educational institutions can tap into this feature for distributing proprietary apps used internally....

Apple has shared a Newsroom post today featuring four Canadian App Store developers as well as highlighting the growth that the platform has seen in the country over the last year. Along with the almost 20% rise in Canadian developers, Apple says it has paid out more than $2 billion CAD in total earnings since 2008. And the majority of that revenue for Canadian devs comes from other countries. Apple today stopped signing iOS 14.5.1, an update that was released in early May with important security fixes. That means users who have updated their devices to iOS 14.6 or iOS 14.7 beta can no longer downgrade to iOS 14.5.1. iOS 14.5.1 was released on May 3 with a fix for a bug that prevented some users from seeing App Tracking Transparency prompts. In addition, the update patched a security breach in WebKit that allowed attackers to use malicious web content that led to arbitrary code execution....

iPhone XR pre-orders begin later this month on October 19th, and today Apple has updated its Apple Store app for iOS to prepare for that launch. With today’s update, Apple says iPhone Upgrade Program members will be able to use Siri Shortcuts to pre-order their iPhone XR. Today’s update brings the Apple Store app to version 5.1.1. Apple explains that the update includes support for Siri Shortcuts as an “even faster way” to complete iPhone XR pre-orders later this month....

At WWDC this week, Apple announced a handful of new features for AirPods Pro users, including Conversation Boost and Ambient Noise Reduction. According to a new report from TechCrunch, Apple is working to launch a new form for news consumption in iTunes. The company is apparently developing something it calls Spoken Editions, which are short clips that take writing from a variety of publishers and transform it into spoken word content… Spoken Editions were leaked on iTunes earlier today, though Apple has seemingly already pulled the evidence. According to today’s report, one of the companies Apple is working with for Spoken Editions is SpokenLayaer, which creates streaming audio and podcasts for a variety of different publications....
