Apple has issued its first public response to growing pressure by the FCC and other groups to activate FM terrestrial radio features inside iPhones for end-users. In a statement, the company said it cares deeply about the safety of its users and directed users towards its emergency calling and Medical ID features. It also revealed that is technically impossible for iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 to serve as an FM radio anyway, as they lack chips and antennas to support the signal....

Apple has updated its Investor Relations webpage today to announce that it will report its Q4 2019 earnings on October 30th. Following the release of its Q4 earnings, AAPL will hold a call with investors and analysts at 2PM PT/5PM ET. Apple announced its fiscal Q3 2019 earnings on July 30th, reporting revenue of $53.8 billion and profit of $10.04 billion. What is Apple forecasting for the fiscal fourth quarter of 2019?...

In trademark Apple event ceremony, the Apple Store is down ahead of the new product announcements at the 10 AM PT presentation at Apple Park. The store will return when the event concludes with promo pages for all of the new products — it is not guaranteed that anything will be available to buy today. We are expecting the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and the 6.1-inch iPhone ‘Xr’ to comprise most of the show, but we also expect a big segment for the fourth-generation Apple Watch....

As early as last week, my sources in the Apple food chain were hinting at some sort of way for Apple Stores to unlock AT&T iPhone 4s – different than the unlocked models that Apple Stores started selling on June 13th. Now, a trusty retail source hit us up with the above note from an Apple Retail Project Manager, saying that Apple Stores can now unlock the AT&T version of the iPhone....

Apple is trying to diversify its supply chain partners apart from only China. The company is focusing its plans on India as well. According to DigiTimes, Apple has reportedly created around 20,000 job opportunities in the country since last year. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, the numbers could be even higher. Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron were committed to creating a certain number of job opportunities when they applied to enter the subsidies program under India’s Production Incentive, as told by DigiTimes....

Apple has announced that it will hold is Q2 2013 financial results earnings call on Tuesday, April 23rd. As usual, the call will be streamed on Apple’s website at 2PM Pacific/ 5 PM Eastern time… This past quarter, Apple released a 128GB version of the fourth-generation iPad and dropped prices on some of the MacBook Pro with Retina display and MacBook Air lines. Apple, Google, Microsoft and 44 other organisations and security experts have signed an open letter condemning a proposal to secretly add law enforcement organizations to encrypted chats and calls. The proposal by GCHQ – Britain’s equivalent of the NSA – seeks to provide an encryption workaround that would breach privacy and security in apps like Messages, FaceTime, WhatsApp and Signal … The proposed workaround, aka ‘ghost proposal’ So far, companies like Apple have been able to tell law enforcement that it has no way to provide them with access to Messages chats and FaceTime calls because the services use end-to-end encryption....

Just days after releasing iOS 6.1 to the public, Apple has released iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 to developers for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The download is available via Apple’s developer center for registered developers. Apple has released OS X 10.9.1 for Mac via the Mac App Store today. The update includes a number of Mail related fixes including improved support for Gmail as well as numerous bug fixes. The update also fixes a VoiceOver issue that prevented sentences with emoji characters from being read… Apple previously released a Gmail fix in early November after issues with Mavericks created instability. Alongside iOS 9.3.2, Apple has also released a bug fix update for Apple Watch in the form of watchOS 2.2.1. The release notes indicate the OTA update (weighing in at around 30 MB) includes various bug fixes and security updates. Given the version number, we aren’t expecting any new features but we’ll update if we see anything new. Check the Apple Watch app on the iPhone to update to the latest firmware....

Apple seems to be simplifying its range of accessories for its older iPhones ahead of the iPhone 6 launch on Friday. As shown above, Apple has removed every color of iPhone 5s case apart from black from its website. Although it is strange for Apple to reduce its potential for accessory sales (given that it still sells the iPhone 5s for only $99 on contract and many 5/5s models are out in the world), it is seemingly focusing on its new range of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus leather and silicone cases instead....

Apple’s rumored HomePod mini is set to be unveiled during the “Hi, Speed” event next week, according to a pair of early morning reports on Friday. The HomePod mini will reportedly be available for $99 and announced during the event, but availability won’t begin until November. Today’s report from Kang follows earlier reporting from L0vetodream, who said that a HomePod mini was coming this year but that we should not expect a followup to the full-size HomePod in 2020....

Just over a week following the previous build, Apple has seeded OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 build 12E47 to registered Mac developers. The update is available via the Mac App Store for developers and should be on the Mac Developer Center shortly. Apple, once again, tells developers to focus on WiFi performance, Safari, and Graphics Drivers… We previously noted that 10.8.4 includes support for Mac computers with 802.11ac WiFi chips....

As Apple released iOS 14.2 to the public last week, the company today stopped signing iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1. That means users who have updated their devices to iOS 14.2 can no longer downgrade to iOS 14.1. iOS 14.1 was introduced in October with bug fixes and also initial support for iPhone 12 devices, including compatibility with 10-bit HDR videos in the Photos app. iOS 14.2 came two weeks later variety of changes and new features, including new emoji as well as new wallpapers....

Apple will resume sales of iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 devices in Germany, after a ruling in December forced the company to halt sales of the two devices for infringing on Qualcomm patents. The legal disputes between Apple and Qualcomm have long dragged out and gone in favor of both sides along the way. While Qualcomm saw a major victory in the court ruling from December, a second lawsuit from January was thrown out in Germany, being described by a patent expert as a ‘nuisance’....

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced this afternoon during the company’s earnings call that Apple Pay will be rolling out to Germany later this year. Apple Pay, the company’s mobile payment solution, has been rapidly rolling out to more countries as of late and will now be coming to Germany later this year. Apple didn’t specify a date, but those who live in Germany should expect support for the service relatively soon....
