Jeff Robbin led Apple to create both the original iPod and iTunes — so obviously he’s the man for the job. Bloomberg also quotes Piper’s Munster who believes that the HDTV is in prototype, due out late next year or 2013. He also postulates that the Apple TV will have Siri and iCloud functionality....

Apple seeded its latest beta of Safari for developers yesterday, as it does every two weeks. Whilst the seeds usually contain little of interest to non-developers, the newest seed (Release 23) includes a few interesting changes. Most notably, it includes Mac laptop battery life improvements for WebGL content by relying less on the dedicated GPU. Safari WebKit is going to incorporate a more advanced algorithm to decide whether to enable the dedicated graphics hardware in MacBooks on a particular page....

Today we saw two new iPhone models – 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays for the first time – but what about Apple’s plans for the 4-inch iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and 3.5-inch iPhone 4s? While there was no new 4-inch model in the 2014 iPhone lineup, Apple has lowered the price of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models to $99 and $0 on contact, respectively. The update brings the app to version 4.4 and includes new checkout features, a new iPhone purchasing option, and iOS 11 enhancements… The update brings a new scanner that makes it easier to add your credit card information at checkout. This means you no longer have to take the time to manually enter your credit details, making the checkout process significantly easier....

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has filed a lawsuit against Samsung over the “look and feel” of Samsung’s Galaxy series. The Galaxy series includes the popular Galaxy S smartphone line – Nexus S, Galaxy S 4G, Epic 4G – in addition to the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet device. Apple and Samsung have long had a business relationship. Samsung supplies many flash components for Apple’s iOS devices like the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, in addition to Apple’s flash iPods: nano and shuffle....

In iOS 8, Apple is adding some new Core Location features that let app developers get precise indoor positioning data from an iOS device’s sensors and it’s even letting venues contribute by signing-up to get help enabling indoor positioning. We first exclusively detailed the new feature last year, which taps into the iPhone’s M7 processor and uses WiFi technologies to provide extremely accurate indoor mapping and navigation features to developers. Up until now, CoreLocation has been using a combination of Cellular, GPS, and WiFi technology in order to provide developers with location information from their users....

According to a new report from Variety, Apple will take over the lease at a new Culver City development after HBO pulled out. Apple is said to be leasing the entirety of a new 128,000-square-foot development, but specific plans for the location are unclear… The Real Deal first reported Apple’s plans, with Variety receiving confirmation from the mayor of Culver City. HBO was originally planned to be the sole tenant of the new development, but that deal fell through for unknown reasons....

As someone who’s spent the past three nights in a hotel room, the hotel TV experience feels stuck in 1998. The TV comes on to a customized hotel user interface with music that is way too loud, and then I have to arrow over to the TV menu to then actually watch TV. Anytime I use a traditional cable interface, I am reminded of why I cut the cord. It’s tedious to see what’s on, it’s slow to change to what I find, and it’s entirely the opposite of a modern Apple TV-type interface....

Apple is currently planning a March 2016 event to unveil the second-generation Apple Watch, according to sources with knowledge of the plans. The second version of the Apple Watch would then ship by April, nearly a year after the original model first went on sale. Apple is reclosing 11 more US stores in California, Maryland, Ohio, and Tennessee due to deteriorating COVID-19 conditions. The latest round of reclosings adds to 2 stores temporarily shuttered earlier this week for a total of 91 US locations reclosed due to COVID-19. Staying open while maintaining a safe environment is proving to be a delicate balance for Apple in both the US and elsewhere. Apple is set to release their own accessory for data transfers and display connections between Thunderbolt Macs. The accessory is coming in the form of a cable with both ends featuring connectors for the Thunderbolt I/O port. As we already know, this port is the same size as the Mini Display ports on current and past generation Macs. These Thunderbolt cables are perfect for data migration between Thunderbolt Macs (currently the iMac and MacBook Pro) as well as for display connections....

Apple has finally taken its iTunes Radio streaming music service internationally: starting with Australia. The service, which launched in the United States late last year, works on iPads, iPhones, iPods running iOS 7, the Apple TV, and on iTunes 11 on the Mac or PC. Like in the United States, iTunes Radio in Australia is supported by advertisements. However, iTunes Match subscribers can listen to iTunes Radio without ads. Apple is yet to announce any other international iTunes Radio countries, but evidence and reports suggest that Canada, New Zealand, and some European countries will be gaining the feature soon....

The latest clip, titled ‘The story behind “The Song”’, features musician Dana Williams (iTunes) and vocalist Rhiannon Giddens (iTunes) from the holiday ad as well as several people from Third Man Records where part of the vintage vocals were recorded. The new video talks about the Voice-O-Graph, used to record your voice to vinyl for recording an audio post card, then shows Williams’ going through the process of recording the old record she found in the ad and remixing it into GarageBand with her own performance....
