TechCrunch noticed that Apple started including editorially curated subcategories on the App Store for games. The new lists replace the old “New” and “What’s hot” lists that were generated automatically based an algorithm. We’ve confirmed the change with Apple, which tells us that the switch to editorially curated lists for the games subcategories went live on May 14th. Going forward, it seems that Apple is moving away from these algorithmically derived and more automated lists....

Apple TV+ has inked an exclusive multi-year first-look deal with Martin Scorsese for future television shows and movies. As reported by Deadline, the deal means that Apple TV+ will have first dibs at content from Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions company. News of this first-look deal between Scorsese and Apple TV+ comes after Apple reached a deal with Paramount to help finance the filmmaker’s Killers of the Flower Moon adaptation. The film, which is based on a best selling book of the same name, was in development at Paramount, but the studio grew weary of the $180 to $200 million price tag....

According to a new report from The New York Times, Apple will, as expected, announce new details and enhancements for Apple Pay at WWDC next month. Earlier today Apple released the sixth developer preview of OS X Yosemite, along with a new beta version of its Xcode developer tool. However, after users found that the new Xcode beta was unusable, Apple pulled it from the developer website. Bloomberg reports this evening that Apple has signed another publisher to its upcoming premium Apple News subscription service. According to the report, Apple has inked a deal with Vox to be a part of the service. Vox is of course published by Vox Media, which also owns The Verge, SBNation, and Eater. Those other three properties will not be available via the service. Currently, Vox Media doesn’t offer subscription content, but CEO Jim Bankoff said such a payment model was in the works for this year....

Alongside a release of Xcode 6.2 with WatchKit tools for the upcoming Apple Watch, Apple today posted its iOS 8.2 beta for developers. The release, build 12D436, follows the release of iOS 8.1.1 to all users yesterday with fixes and performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S users. According to a new report from TechCrunch, Apple has acquired the photo technology startup SnappyLabs. SnappyLabs is a one-man development team known for creating the SnappyCam app. As the name implies, the big feature of SnappyCam is its ability to take full-resolution images at 20 to 30 frames per second, which is considerably faster than the native Camera app on iOS. The app was sold for $1 on the App Store and was relatively popular, reaching #1 on the paid app chart in nine countries....
