We told you in December that Apple was being fined $1.2 million by Italian anti-trust authorities for “misleading consumers” with AppleCare warranties. At the time, the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato claimed Apple was failing to properly inform consumers of a two-year guarantee mandatory by Italian Consumer Code and European Union law. In response, Apple placed a prominent link on its Italian online store today that translates to “Communication to protect consumers” and links to a PDF of the antitrust decision by L’Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato....

Following the initial launch campaign, Apple is debuting four new Apple Watch ads showing the device in action in several different real-world scenarios. After leaving new iPhone XR users hanging, Apple today has finally started selling a new clear case for the device. Apple has announced today that it will hold its fiscal third quarter earnings call on Tuesday, July 26th at the usual time of 2PM PT/5PM ET, while the earnings release will be sent out roughly thirty minutes before then. Last quarter, Apple saw its first ever decline in iPhone sales, while it also suffered a year-over-year decline in revenue. The company did, however, report strong numbers from its services sector, while Tim Cook called Wall Street’s response to the company’s earnings an overreaction....

Apple has today announced that it will release its fourth quarter earnings on November 1st. The company will also hold an earnings call with investors at 2PM PT/5PM ET the same day. Apple announced its Q3 earnings back on July 31st. The company reported $11.5 billion in profit, with 41.3 million iPhones, 3.7 million Macs, and 11.6 million iPads sold. AppTrackr is the most popular marketplace for downloading cracked iOS applications. The company announced in a blog post, via Installous, that Apple began sending “take down” notices over cracked applications and have been scraping AppTrackr’s links looking for infractions (via iJailbreak). To combat Apple’s wrath, the crew at AppTrackr have moved several of their servers offshore to countries without copyright laws and have added CAPATCHA code to all outbound links. AppTrackr will now place an ad on the CAPATCHA page to pay for moving servers....

Following other news where Apple is complying with the GDPR, today the company outlines tools to help developers manage user data that is stored in iCloud. Starting today, Apple will supply tools to developers to allow users to both export and then delete user data stored in iCloud. This will be done by new native App and Web APIs. Apple will also be giving developers tools to restrict data. This means that when a user temporarily disables their Apple ID, no new data can be sent to iCloud, and the user’s account will be locked....

A review of job ads placed by Apple suppliers in China found that over a hundred ads across more than 30 companies were illegally discriminating against Muslim Uyghurs. Other forms of discrimination found in ads that explicitly stated that the work was for Apple included age limits and bans on dyed hair and tattoos … The Information reports. Following its launch in France earlier today, Apple Pay is now live in Hong Kong, as well. This rollout was previously teased by Apple at WWDC last month, but now users in Hong Kong can officially take advantage of the company’s mobile payment solution. In Hong Kong, Apple Pay is supported with Visa, MasterCard, and American Express cards issued by Bank of China, DBS Bank, HSBC, Standard Chartered, and Hang Seng Bank....

This morning, Apple has released a pair of OS X Yosemite beta updates. The first is OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 8 for registered developers. That update is available via the Mac App Store. The Cupertino-based company has also released OS X Yosemite Public Beta 3, which is the third release for end users that are part of Apple’s AppleSeed customer software seeding program. That update is, too, available on the Mac App Store for applicable users....

[Update 1:00 PM EST: iOS 12.1.2 public beta 1 and tvOS 12.1.2 public beta 1 are now available.] One day after releasing the first iOS 12.1.2 beta to developers, Apple will make iOS 12.1.2 public beta 1 available to install on iPhone and iPad for free. iOS 12.1.2 is focused on squashing lingering bugs from iOS 12 to iOS 12.1.1 which was officially released last week. In just over a year since its 25 billion milestone, Apple’s App Store has just crossed the threshold of 50 billion downloads. As a reminder, the App Store launched just shy of five years ago, on July 10, 2008. The App Store has celebrated three major milestones since its launch, the first for the 10 billionth download in January of 2011, followed by 25 billion just a little over a year later....
