Apple has removed Skype from the App Store in China following a request from the Ministry of Public Security … Apple confirmed the action to the NY Times. For the moment, Skype does continue to operate in the country, but the paper says that it’s unclear how long this will remain the case. The government uses the so-called Great Firewall of China to block access to both websites and a number of messaging services, including Gmail, Facebook, Telegram, Twitter and – most recently – WhatsApp....

Digitimes reported that Apple is continuing talks with the struggling Sharp over its IGZO display panels. Before making a switch, the company is evaluating whether Sharp’s supply will be able to meet the demand of the iPhone, iPad mini, and 10-inch iPad throughout 2013. The sources said Apple is in further discussions with Sharp over IGZO panel production capacity estimates for 2013 and is also inquiring about whether AU Optronics’ (AUO) L5C line could be used to produce the technology....

Apple has made it a tradition to offer its retail employees a holiday gift at some point in December, and this year appears to be no different. The company yesterday gifted its retail employees a limited-edition t-shirt and a printed copy of the Apple credo. As noted by MacRumors, the gifted t-shirt is gray in color and depicts two circles. Look closer, however, and you’ll see that the circles are made up of a text list of all of Apple’s retail locations around the world....

Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s senior vice president of retail, has appeared in a new video interview with CBS This Morning where she discussed her time at the company and new Apple Store initiatives. The major new Apple Store effort centered around customer engagement is called ‘Today at Apple’ and will launch at the end of next month. Apple has detailed the newly expanded program on its Newsroom site today as well....

The call will see the final results of Apple’s last 2009 quarter, as the company reportedly moves to beef up its product offering with improvements in its iMac range as it enters the first quarter of the 2010 financial year, which customarily begins between September 28-30. New iMacs are expected in early October. Speaking during the most recent Q3-09 call, Apple CFO, Peter Oppenheimer, predicted revenue in this quarter in the range of $8....

According to a new illustration surfaced today by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Apple is planning a brand new design for its upcoming store in Atlanta’s Lenox Square shopping center. The multilevel space is said to replace Apple’s existing single floor store inside the mall, which first opened in 2002. While details are light, the report states that plans were recently shown at a Buckhead Development Review Committee meeting for an unidentified tenant at Lenox Square....

Apple confirmed plans to buy music tagging service Shazam back in December, but Apple’s acquisition of the London-based firm still hasn’t received EU antitrust regulatory approval yet. Apple moved to close the deal back in March when the European Commission took control of the approval process, and a decision to OK the deal or launch an in-depth investigation was promised today. First reported by Reuters, the European Commission has formally moved to launch an ‘in-depth’ four month investigation into the proposed deal before allowing or blocking Apple’s takeover of Shazam....

iPhone X is finally arriving to customers today, and with it comes the new 5.8-inch OLED screen that Apple calls the Super Retina display. iPhone X is the first model that uses this screen technology, and with it comes a few disclaimers… Namely, Apple wants customers to expect color and hue shifting when using iPhone X at off-angles as a characteristic of the OLED display. Apple today has offered its first official look at iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 adoption so far. The company says that 50% of all iPhone and iPod touch devices now run iOS 13, while 33% of iPads now run iPadOS. According to Apple, 55% of iPhones introduced in the last four years are running iOS 13, while 38% are running iOS 12. Rounding out the data, 7% of devices are running an earlier version of iOS, Apple says....

Apple has just sent out an email this afternoon notifying developers that iTunes Match has re-opened for developers, after registration was shut-down shortly after it launched. Sadly, we’re hearing from several people around the web that they still aren’t able to get in, but some lucky few are. Frustrating, huh? iTunes Match allows users to store their music library in iCloud, where it can then be downloaded to their iOS devices or other Macs....

Apple has opened up a replacement program for the first-generation iPod nano due to overheating issues. These affected units were sold between September 2005 and December 2006 and include a manufacturing defect sourced at a single Apple battery supplier for the first edition of ultra-small and thin screened iPods from Apple. Apple says the possibility of overheating is small, but since this iPod nano is over five years old, the likelihood of heating is higher than if the battery was younger....

The Apple TV will soon be getting more content thanks to a new FXNOW channel set to debut on the platform in the near future, according to two new reports (via iLounge). The news comes from the Television Critics Association Press Tour with TV writer Jason Lynch reporting the FXNOW channel will arrive on Apple TV within 12 months. The FXNOW channel, which is already available on iOS devices via an app for iPhone and iPad, offers on-demand video streaming from across the FX, FXX, and FXM networks....

Following a series of software releases over the last week including OS X 10.9.3, iTunes 11.2, Safari 7.0.4, and Podcasts for iOS, Apple has tonight released a point update to its iAd Producer software in the developer center. The previous update to the software was released earlier this year in March. The update includes, among other improvements, support for full-screen iPhone banner iAd creation. Apple will release third public betas of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 to testers today. This comes after yesterday’s release of iOS 14 beta 3 to developers, bringing changes such as new Clock widgets and more. Apple started public beta testing of iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and tvOS 14 two weeks ago. Going forward, we generally expect new versions to be released every two weeks. The second iOS 14 public beta likely includes the same changes introduced in the third developer beta....

Alongside today’s new iOS 8.4 beta, Apple has released yet another beta build of the upcoming OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 to developers. Today’s build is labeled as build number 14E17e, and it is available via Software Update in the Mac App Store for developers running earlier versions of the beta. A new Public Beta for AppleSeed users is available as well. It is possible that 10.10.4 will be released in June alongside iTunes 12....

Apple has officially kicked off its “12 Gifts of Christmas” promotion by offering a free download of four live songs (two of which have videos) from Justin Timberlake’s performance at the iTunes Festival in September. Previously available as the 12 days of Christmas app in a few countries internationally, this year Apple has released a new “12 Days of Gifts” app that is available in the U.S. for the first time....
