Gizmodo Brazil has gotten their hands on the cheaper iPhone 4, which is codenamed N90A. The cheaper iPhone 4 was spotted at Brazil’s new Foxconn plant, which means we’ll likely start seeing our first “Made in Brazil” devices from Apple next week. The phone looks identical to the iPhone 4 of today, and will likely pack less storage than today’s models; 8GB in all likelihood. Their report corroborates our claims of an N90A iPhone 4 appearing in Apple’s inventory system for an imminent launch....

New data from IDC tracking worldwide tablet shipments shows that Apple has maintained its lead during the third quarter despite “a decline in overall iPad shipment volume in 3Q14.” Specifically, Apple grabbed 22.8% of the market with 12.3 million shipments during the quarter compared to 14.1 million units and 29.2% share in the year ago quarter. That compares to Samsung at 18.3% of the market and 9.9 million units shipped up from 19....

Apple’s top investigator Lee Freedman has departed the company for a new role at Facebook. Freedman previously served as the Director of Worldwide Investigations at Apple. Freedman, who has a background with the Justice Department, served in the top investigations role since 2011. Freedman is credited with creating Apple’s cyber program where he managed the company’s Cyber Investigations team before being promoted to Director of Investigations. Put simply, Freedman was responsible for preventing leaks and overseeing Apple’s team of investigators who track down how unreleased information and products escape Apple....

Apple today has made a small but notable change to its App Store Guidelines. The company quietly adjusted section 3.1 of the guidelines, which previously prohibited gifting in-app purchases to other users. With today’s change, however, Apple is permitting developers to add support for gifting in-app purchases. As first spotted by MacRumors, Apple previously indicated in its App Store Guidelines that gifting of in-app purchases was not permissible. The recent revision, however, says that developers are free to “enable gifting of items that are eligible in-app purchases to others....

In accordance with a local Russian law that requires technology companies to store some user data on servers within the state, new filings reveal that Apple stores some iCloud information on local Russian servers. While the information stored is apparently limited to full name, address, email and phone number, Apple says more information is stored locally from their Russian employees. Specifically, messages, photos, contacts and documents are not saved locally for average users, however, Russian Apple employees’ records include passport numbers, work and income history, and full address reports....

Apple began a support Twitter account early in 2016, answering customer queries and tweeting out the occasional iOS tip. It has now expanded into a dedicated Apple Support YouTube channel. True Knowledge, the brains behind a popular Siri alternative for iOS devices, received a note from Apple that the company will shoot down the popular 99-cent download from its mobile bazaar. The World Health Organization and Global Citizen have announced the “One World: Together At Home” virtual benefit concert for COVID-19 relief efforts. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert, the event will be streamed live by Apple as well as many other platforms. Earlier this week, Apple released eleven new underwater screensavers for the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. If you are using the Aerial screensaver, the Apple TV will automatically download them and appear in the rotation alongside the existing videos. The new videos were added sometime this week, around Monday or Tuesday. The new screensavers are available in 1080p and 4K variants, which means they will show up on any tvOS-compatible Apple TV....

As expected, today during its iPad and Mac event Apple announced an official Oct. 20 launch date for Apple Pay, its new payments service unveiled earlier this year alongside the NFC-equipped iPhone 6 models. CEO Tim Cook also announced that the company has signed up 500 additional banks since first announcing initial partners last month. The banks will rollout Apple Pay this year and next, according to Cook. Initially the service will only be available for users in the US....
