As it continues to expand its health services for users, Apple has rehired Flipboard co-founder Evan Doll. According to Doll’s LinkedIn profile, he will work in the company’s health software department. Doll apparently rejoined Apple last month as a “director of health software engineering” (via Bloomberg). Doll originally worked at Apple from 2003 to 2009 as a software engineer. At first, he was a pro applications software engineer, though he later shifted his focus to developing an operating system for the iPhone....

Apple today released the seventh developer preview of OS X Yosemite bringing the latest build to 14A343f. The previous developer preview (build 14A329f) was released two weeks ago. Xcode 6 beta 7 was also released alongside new builds for OS X Server 4.0 Developer Preview and Apple Configurator 1.6 beta 5. If you find something new, you can let us know at tips@9to5mac.com. Alongside the launch of the 5s and 5c, Apple has adjusted its marketing guidelines for App Store developers in response to the wider color palette of iPhones now on sale. Apple now officially allows developers to include iPhone models other than black in their marketing. Up to now, developers were only supposed to use black iPhones although it is well known that Apple never really enforced these requirements. As such, many developers have used white iPhones in PR images over the years regardless of the regulations....

Back in April of 2011, Final Cut Pro X was previewed at the Los Angeles Creative Pro User Group meeting, or LAFCUG, which occurred during NAB2011. This preview happened several months prior to the official debut of Final Cut Pro X later that summer, which was a drastic departure from the previous Final Cut Pro 7. Final Cut Pro X has evolved immensely since its debut release, reacquiring many of the features that were dropped from Final Cut Pro 7, and adding a ton of additional features along the way....

As we previously reported, Apple’s VP of software technology, Bud Tribble, will testify at a Senate hearing tomorrow on federal privacy legislation. While there are no surprises expected, Axios obtained his prepared statement that details how Apple will voice its support of “comprehensive federal privacy legislation.” The White House started looking into a new federal privacy law after Europe passed its GDPR back in May. The Trump administration has held over 22 meetings with over 80 companies, organizations, and groups over the summer and now Apple’s Bud Tribble will give a testimony at tomorrow’s Senate hearing on the subject....

Apple Pay is now available from 23 more banks and credit unions around the United States. Apple’s mobile payment service launched two years ago with hundreds of additional regional banks and credit unions added every few weeks. Apple Pay’s expansion to Israel has been rumored for a long time, but we now have an official launch date. According to local news outlet Haaretz, Apple Pay will launch in Israel on May 5. Apple Pay will allow iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch users in Israel to pay in stores, online, and in-app. The launch has been rumored for nearly a year, but it is believed to have been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic....

Apple has invested a lot into its Apple Pay mobile payments solution since its launch last fall. Since launching in October, the payment method is already accepted at more than 700,000 retail locations, according to the company. Reuters today has published a new report in which Apple says that Apple Pay will be accepted by half of the top 100 merchants in the United States by the end of this year, with more planned in 2016....

The same day as it released OS X 10.11.3 to the public, Apple has now pushed an update to its iMovie video editing software. The update bumps the app to version 10.1.1 and includes primarily under-the-hood bug fixes and performance updates, some of which will certainly be welcomed by users. First off, Apple says the update fixes an issue with YouTube sharing that would prevent a user from signing in if they had multiple accounts....

Apple has released the second iOS 9.3 beta for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to public beta testers. Today’s release follows the developer version Apple releases iOS 9.3 beta 2 with Night Shift, Touch ID Notes, & new 3D Touch earlier this week, which included tweaks and changes from the initial iOS 9.3 beta. These include updated Night Shift settings as well as a new toggle in Control Center and several other changes....

While Apple has made clear that it has a keen interest in augmented reality, there have been conflicting reports about what form those features might take and how they might make their debut. A new Bloomberg report seeks to shed light on both questions. Apple and Sprint have completed work on a version of the iPad for Sprint’s data network. This Sprint compatible iPad appears to be ready for public consumption and will join the family of GSM (AT&T) and Verizon capable Apple tablets before the holidays. With Apple soon launching a Sprint version of the iPhone – which we independently confirmed in June – we suspect that the Sprint iPad will come alongside or soon after that release....

As Apple announced a monster Q2 earnings with $89.6 billion in total revenue, a major driver for the growth was its services. Apple rarely shares specifics on its subscription numbers, but CFO Luca Maestri said that the company now has 660 million paid subscribers for its services. While a possible deal with China Mobile, one of the world’s largest telecoms, was rumored for quite sometime leading up to launch of the new iPhones, the company said in August that it was still working out “commercial and technical issues” with Apple. Today, Bloomberg points us to an Apple job listing in China that provides some evidence that the company is indeed preparing to launch the iPhone on the carrier’s network:...

Apple has updated its third-party USB adapter trade-in program page to note that the program is worldwide. Apple originally only noted support for the program in China and the United States. The company then updated the page to share that customers in Australia ($14 AUD), Canada ($11 CAD), France (10 €), Germany (10 €), Japan (￥1,000), and the United Kingdom (10 €) are eligible as well. Now that the program has officially begun, Apple has providing special discount pricing for official Apple USB charging adapters for several more countries (shown above)....

New data from Strategy Analytics shows that Apple’s iPhone 7 was the top-selling smartphone during the first quarter of 2017 despite a slight year-over-year drop in sales. While Apple doesn’t release iPhone sales by model, Strategy Analytics estimates that the iPhone 7 accounted for 6.1% of total smartphones shipped while the iPhone 7 Plus captured 4.9% of shipments. According to the research, Apple shipped 21.5 million iPhone 7 models during the first quarter of the year while the pricier iPhone 7 Plus made up 17....

Apple appears set to abandon its plans to offer the rebranded Beats streaming music service for less than the $9.99/month charged by Spotify, Rdio and Google Play Music. Billboard reports that Apple’s attempts to use its clout to negotiate better deals with record labels have been unsuccessful. The report says that the deals offered by the labels would have left Apple losing money if it had gone ahead with its plan to offer the service for the rumored $7....

Apple Pay is now working with cards from HCBC France and BNP Paribas. The two banks join the 25 card issuers already supporting Apple’s mobile wallet service in France … The move follows the addition of bunq and Crédit du Nord in December of last year. Neither HSBC nor BNP are yet listed on Apple’s website, but both banks had announced that support was coming soon, and iPhon.fr reports that cards from both banks can be added as of this morning....

We first heard about Apple making its high-end iPhone models in India earlier this year. Today a new report from ET Telecom claims the company has just started the production of the iPhone XR in the country, with plans to also manufacture the iPhone 11 there in the following months. Apple has conducted several production tests over the past few weeks to ensure these devices can be produced at Foxconn Chennai in India....
