Apple today released an updated aerial shot of the construction progress of its Campus 2 project in Cupertino, California. The new shot was made available on the City of Cupertino’s official website and continues to show the steady progress including more groundwork made on the future headquarters. The latest image shows a different angle of the scene and some signs of progress on the ground, and the general project schedule remains unchanged....

We’ve heard a few whispers (3 and counting) that Apple Stores both in the United States and overseas have planned overnights for Tuesday, July 24th. With OS X Mountain Lion launching “in July”, according to Apple, we believe that it is sensible to speculate that this overnight may point to a public launch the following day. This purported launch would be July 25th, a date that we speculated when Apple announced that its Q3 2012 earnings would be announced on the 24th....

Apple just unveiled an interesting new option for the new iMacs and Mac minis that it is calling “Fusion Drive”. Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller described it as a combination of storage and software, and it provides a 128GB SDD and 1TB or 3TB HDD melded into a single volume for faster read-and-writes and better performance. Apple explained the drive stores core OS X apps on SSD, while documents and other media are stored on HDD (depending on what you use most)....

Apple this evening has released the fourth developer beta of macOS 10.14.2. The release comes two weeks after the third beta release. The fourth beta of iOS 12.1.1 has not yet been released. macOS 12.14.2 focuses primarily on bug fixes and performance improvements. iOS 12.1.1 brings improvements to the iPhone XR, FaceTime, and additional watchOS complications. It’s unclear when we might see the fourth beta of iOS 12.1.1 and the third beta of watchOS 5....

Apple has begun rolling out the second beta of iOS 10.3.2 to developers. The latest iOS beta sees the re-introduction of support for 32-bit devices following iOS 10.3.1’s release. Release notes aren’t yet available for this update, but be sure to check back as we discover anything new. Today’s update is available to beta testers through Apple’s Developer Center as either a download or an over-the-air update through the developer profile....

Back at the September 2020 event, as part of the Apple Watch Series 6 announcement, Apple said it was collaborating with the Seattle Flu Study and the University of Washington to determine if the Apple Watch can predict respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19 … The Apple Respiratory Study is now recruiting for participants. If you want to volunteer, you must live in the greater Seattle area and be aged 22 or over....

The upcoming version of macOS Sierra is the first to bring Night Shift to the Mac. macOS Sierra 10.12.4 beta is currently only available to developers and public beta testers. We told you a couple months ago that Apple was likely planning its first retail location in Sweden after job listings were discovered on Apple’s website. There were reports at the time that the store would end up somewhere in Stockholm’s city center, but the exact location was otherwise unknown. Today, local reports from 99mac and others claimed Apple is now confirming to new employees that the store will be located in the NK mall in Stockholm....

While Apple is using an A6 processor for this new iPad mini, developer Nick Frey has shared with us that Apple is also developing a new A7 processor. A reference to an s5l8960x (likely A7) processor, which is a leap over the s5l8950x (A6) and s5l8955x (A6X), was located inside of the iOS 7 filesystem. Based on recent chatter, it seems plausible that this will be the chip powering the new iPhone 5S....

Apple updated its Apple Store app today with a few new features to spotlight Today at Apple sessions and make participating in the Apple GiveBack program easier. The update brings the app to version 5.3. Following the rollout of over 50 new creative and educational sessions this past January, Apple completely redesigned its Today at Apple website to organize sessions by topic and feature upcoming events. Now, a similar design can be found on the Sessions tab in the Apple Store app....

That didn’t take long… Bloomberg reports that two Tampa, Florida-based iPhone customers have sued Apple over the controversial iPhone location tracking issue. The customers claim that Apple is secretly recording the whereabouts of iPhone and iPad users. Steve Jobs is going to love this one… “We take issue specifically with the notion that Apple is now basically tracking people everywhere they go,” Aaron Mayer, an attorney for the plaintiffs, said today in a telephone interview....

OS X 10.9, which is internally codenamed “Cabernet,” will focus on various “power-user” enhancements and take core features from iOS, according to our sources. Unlike operating system updates such as OS X Leopard and OS X Lion, OS X 10.9 will likely not be an overhauled approach to how the operating system feels and functions. The new operating system includes major enhancements to the Finder application such as tags and tabbed browsing modes....

Apple keeps pushing Apple TV+, which is about to complete its first year since its launch in November 2019. The company signed a $70 million deal earlier this year to premiere the “Greyhound” film starring Tom Hanks, and now Apple TV+ has acquired the movie rights to “Cherry” with Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo for $40 million. First reported by Deadline, Apple now has the worldwide rights to premiere Cherry, the first film directed by the brothers Anthony and Joe Russo since their work on Avengers: Endgame....

Fans of Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet will appreciate knowing that the Apple Original will receive a post-pandemic bonus episode ahead of the season 2 premiere. The Computer Emergency Readiness Team, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, issued security alert (TA16-105A) on Thursday calling for all Windows users to uninstall the program. Trend Micro says it hasn’t discovered any active attacks that target the newly found vulnerabilities (at least not yet). According to Trend Micro’s security bulletin: However, since Apple has abandoned QuickTime for Windows and will no longer support it, the only way to protect yourself from an attack is to get rid of it....

It’s a serious protest at the Chamber’s ineffectiveness at accepting and acting on the dangers of climate change. In a letter to the Chamber president, Apple VP, Catherine Novelli said: “Apple supports regulating greenhouse gas emissions, and it is frustrating to find the Chamber at odds with us in this effort.” As a result, Novelli said, “we have decided to resign our membership effective immediately.” The Chamber has opposed legislation designed to reduce emissions....

Yesterday, we reported the 2012 Mac mini, Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro, and iMac were unable to update to OS X 10.8.2 after Apple pulled the first update from the App Store last Friday. Today, the folks in Cupertino have released their second supplemental update for OS X 10.8.2 that should allow those users to install the update. Additionally, Apple said the update “is recommended for all Mac systems introduced in 2012” and mainly “fixes an issue with Keychain that can affect 2012 Mac systems....
