Apple will release the fifth developer beta of iOS 13.4 today. This update comes one week after the release of beta 4. iOS 13.4 includes new features like iCloud Drive folder sharing and much more. A supply-chain report says that Apple will be using a new form of screen technology to make at least one of its 2019 iPhone models thinner and lighter — a trend Apple has bucked with recent flagship versions. The report says that Apple has decided to use touch-integrated flexible OLED panels, which have a different construction to current iPhone screens … Current screens use a separate touch-sensitive layer sitting on top of the display itself....

The Telegraph reported Apple would unveil an update to its AirPlay platform at its rumored Sept. 12 media event alongside the next-generation iPhone. Currently being referred to as “AirPlay Direct” internally, the updated platform will allow users to stream media from an iOS device to speakers without the need for Wi-Fi. One of the largest property companies in the San Francisco Bay Area has said during an investor call that Apple is seeking around 800,000 square feet of space in the area to expand its car project. The WSJ quotes Hudson Pacific Properties CEO Victor Coleman talking about rising demand for space for car R&D in the area. Following the update to their Apple News Format Design Tutorial, Apple has just published an update to their iOS Human Interface Guidelines with new iOS 10 design resources. The resources include templates and UI materials to help designers quickly design iOS applications. In the past, Apple has shared Sketch design templates for the Apple Watch and Dynamic Type Sizes, but today’s update is much more involved. According to Apple, the resources are “comprehensive and accurately depict the full range of UIKit controls, views and glyphs available to developers using the iOS SDK”....

Apple is inviting staff to vote for one of 20 different ‘community themes,’ a list of worthy projects ranging from using technology to boost environmental sustainability to empowering the elderly. One of the projects is geared to making Apple products more available to those who would not normally be able to afford them. While many thought we would see an iPad come in as low as $250 with the iPad mini unveiling yesterday, Apple doesn’t think it will have a problem competing with the lower priced 7-inch Android tablets on the market. In a report from Reuters, Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller defended the price point of the new iPad mini that many analysts incorrectly predicted would come in under the $300 mark....

Apple today has launched a “benchmark” sized Australian dollar corporate bond issue, its first in Australian currency. Investors in Australia were informed of the two-part bond sales just recently and told that Apple will offer four-year and seven-year bonds in the country. Since the bond issue is referred to as benchmark-sized, Apple is likely looking to raise between $500 million and $1 billion. Seeing that Apple has a AA+ rating, lenders are aware that it’s a low credit risk investment, meaning that Apple shouldn’t have trouble raising the money and can offer bonds at a relatively cheap rate....

Situated in Munich on Rosenstrasse (Berlin’s equivalent is the subject of an award-winning German film), little is known about the store so far, but we can speculate it will offer Apple’s 21st-Century design aesthetic, be staffed by enthusiastic Mac users from across Germany, and will likely be run by a US-trained manager. During Apple’s Q1 2019 earnings call today, Tim Cook shared updates on how some of the company’s Services have been growing including details on Apple News, Apple Pay, Apple Music, and more. This comes as Apple reported 19% Services growth YoY for a new record of $10.9B in revenue. Cook shared on the earnings call that the company saw its monthly active user rate for Apple News hit 85M. Apple News rolling out to more countries will also help drive growth....

Apple is working to streamline the Apple Pay Transit process for users, a new report suggests. Citing evidence found within iOS 12.3 code, the report explains that Apple is working is expanding the availability of the Apple Pay “Express Transit” feature to new card types. Tap Down Under explains that currently, Express Transit is limited to “stored value cards,” such as Suica. This is a card where you keep a certain amount of money on the card itself, and pre-load it with funds when you run out....

Apple has posted a new web page that is dedicated to answering frequently asked questions about the transition from MobileMe to Apple’s new iCloud service, which launches this fall (via TechCrunch). The webpage explains which services are staying with iCloud and which are going (shown in image above).
