Apple has released a supplemental update to macOS Catalina 10.15.6 this afternoon, bringing important bug fixes and improvements to Mac users. This update comes one month after the original release of macOS Catalina 10.15.6 and it focuses on resolving a bug related to virtualization apps. Apple says that the supplemental update released to Mac users today resolves an issue that could occur when using virtualization apps. There’s also a fix for the 2020 iMac, with Apple saying that some users were experiencing a washed out display after waking their machine from sleep....

Earlier today, the United States Supreme Court ruled that a major lawsuit against Apple and the App Store will be allowed to move forward. Now, Apple has responded to that Supreme Court decision, saying that it is confident it will prevail in court. SCOTUSblog explains that the question the Supreme Court had to answer was whether or not a consumer can sue anyone who delivers a product for antitrust damages, even if prices are set by third-parties who would be the victim of the offense....

With well over 3,000 confirmed deaths in Saturday’s devastating earthquake in Nepal, Apple is inviting iTunes users to donate to the American Red Cross. The appeal allows donations from $5 to $200, with 100% of the funds donated being passed anonymously to the Red Cross … As the time of writing, the confirmed death toll in the disaster was 3,617, many other having seen their homes destroyed. As most iTunes users already have a credit card linked to their account, it’s a particularly quick and easy way to donate....

Apple has officially announced that its first retail store in Thailand will open next month at Bangkok’s upcoming Iconsiam mall. Apple is set to reveal several major new and expanded retail stores before the end of the month. In addition to Apple Fifth Avenue’s reopening in New York City on September 20, Apple’s second store in Mexico, Apple Antara, will open on September 27 at 5 p.m. local time. In the Polanco district of Mexico City, Apple is putting the finishing touches on its second store in the country. Apple Antara is a significant outdoor pavilion at Antara Fashion Hall, a popular shopping center across the street from cultural hubs including Museo Jumex and Museo Soumaya....

Back in 2015, Apple was found to have infringed a chip efficiency patent belonging to the University of Wisconsin. The company was told at the time that it would have to pay damages that might amount to as much as $862M … Damages were subsequently reduced to $234M when it was ruled that Apple had not intentionally infringed the patent, but then increased to $506M because the company continued to do so after the verdict....

Details about Apple’s upcoming video service continue to surface with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that Kristen Wiig will star in a comedy series distributed by Apple. Reese Witherspoon, who already has two upcoming shows through Apple, will produce the comedy show. Kristen Wiig has been involved with SNL off and on since 2005 and starred in the Ghostbusters reboot in 2016. Core Group, Apple’s official distributor in South Africa, just announced details for the launch date and pricing of Apple TV in the country. According to a statement by the company (via mybroadband.co.za), Apple TV will finally launch through select retailers starting Jan. 18. The launch follows Apple’s official opening of iTunes Store and iPhone 5 in South Africa alongside 50+ other countries last month. According to a new report from Gizmodo, Apple plans to continue its slow Latin America expansion with a new store in Argentina. The store comes following Apple’s first Latin American store in Brazil 3 years ago, which was followed by a new store in Mexico City last year. Two new drone flyover videos today give us an up-to-date look at construction progress at Apple’s Campus 2 site set to become the company’s new Cupertino headquarters early next year. Following his last update in early August, Matthew Roberts just sent over the aerial video below that he shot using a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone. The September progress update shows what Apple has been up to on the site over the last month including almost completing installation of the exterior canopies and large glass panels— the largest curved glass panels ever created— that cover the entire facade of the structure....
