At WWDC earlier today, Apple revealed Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan with a handful of new features, including improvements to Safari, new Spotlight capabilities, side-by-side window functionality, performance improvements, and more. Apple released a developer beta of El Capitan today via its developer portal, while also noting that a public beta will come in July. We have learned this evening, however, that Apple has also seeded a beta version of El Capitan to retail employees for testing.
It makes sense for Apple to give its retail employees a version of the latest build of Mac OS X as they can provide useful feedback when it comes to bugs and usability. Apple in the past has acknowledged that many people who download its beta software are simply wishing to play with the new features, not actually provide feedback. El Capitan is also considered to be a version of OS X focused on ironing out the bugs from Yosemite, so having the large amount of retail employees search for bugs will be beneficial for Apple in the long run.
OS X 10.11 El Capitan is available to developers and retail employees now and will be launched later this year to the public for free.
