Apple has re-released last month’s minor iOS 9.3.2 software update after pulling it due to customer complaints of bricking iPad Pros. The updated version features build number 13F72 and is available through official channels now.
Updating a bricked iPad requires connecting it to iTunes on a Mac or PC using the Lightning cable.
The issue only affected some 9.7-inch iPad Pros, but resulted in bricked devices when trying to update to the minor software update. iOS 9.3.2 contains now new features and was only described as a bug fix and security improvement update, which made the experience all the more frustrating for iPad Pro customers.
iOS 9.3.2 first went public in mid-May after several developer and beta tester versions and reports of bricking immediately followed. Apple responded four days later by pulling the iOS 9.3.2 update for 9.7-inch iPad Pro customers.
Notably, Apple’s iOS 9.3.3 update, which is currently in developer and public beta testing, hasn’t been available for 9.7-inch iPad Pro customers due to the updating issue. Now that the update is seemingly resolved, the next version of iOS 9.3.3 will likely be available for the smaller iPad Pro as well.
Fortunately, none of our iPad Pros were affected by the ‘Error 56’ bug during updating, but that also means we’re unable to verify that the new build resolves the issue so proceed with caution.
