Apple is rolling out the fourth watchOS 3.2.2 beta for developer testing on Apple Watch. The update likely includes bug fixes and security improvements ahead of a more feature-packed watchOS 4 announcement later this year. watchOS 3.2 for Apple Watch brought new features including Theater Mode which mutes alerts and disables raise-to-wake plus SiriKit so third-party apps can work with Siri. The latest Apple Watch software update also includes new watch face colors including Nike custom colors, although previous developer betas have not yet included these....

iMore‘s Rene Ritchie reported that while the current 30-pin dock connector on the iPods, iPads, and iPhones were serving Apple well for around 10 years, the company is now working on a new dock connector. Apple’s new dock connector will reportedly be a smaller version of the iOS device syncing and charging port, but it will not be micro-USB or Thunderbolt. iMore said Thunderbolt is unlikely due to lack of architecture support, and the report claimed micro-USB is out of the question due to its slow data transfer speeds....

Apple has responded to Greenlight Capital’s proposal regarding the issuing of preferred stock, and the stock market has reacted extremely favorably (above): Greenlight Capital founder David Einhorn appeared on “Squawk Box” today to defend his decision to file suit in New York federal court against Apple over a proposal, dubbed “Proposal 2,” that would allegedly stamp out preferred stock in the company’s proxy, claiming the proposal does not adhere to regulatory rules…...

During Apple’s Q4 2019 earnings call, Apple’s Senior Director of Investor Relations, Nancy Paxton, announced her retirement after serving during two decades at the company. Nancy Paxton has become a very familiar voice to those who tune in to Apple’s quarterly earnings calls. She’s served in her current role as Senior Director of Investor Relations and Treasury since 2007. Apple CFO Luca Maestri announced her retirement today before the Q&A session at the end of the Q4 2019 earnings call and congratulated her on her years of impactful service and noted that her sense of humor will be missed....

Following several reports from readers earlier today that Apple’s iCloud Mail service was experiencing an outage, Apple has now updated its system status page to reflect the downtime. Apple says that “some users are affected” and that “users may be unable to receive iCloud mail”. Apple’s system status page says the outage started a little before 12PM ET this morning and continues for some. iCloud Mail service also went down last month with a relatively small number of users experiencing an outage for as long as 18 hours....

Apple TV Channels is a feature in Apple’s TV app that allows you to subscribe to streaming services directly in the TV app. This comes with several benefits, such as billing through Apple and the ability to easily drop and add subscriptions. Prolific Apple developer and hacker Steve Troughton-Smith has messed around with the tvOS Simulator and coerced it into running at twice the standard HD resolution, 3840×2160, more commonly referred to as 4K. One day after the official release of iOS 12 and watchOS 5, Apple has released new developer software beta versions for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Apple has released an updated build of iOS 14.5 to developers today. This comes after the release of beta 1 earlier this week. The new build released today is still referred to as beta 1, but it features a new build number. The updated version iOS 14.5 beta 1 is available to developers via an over-the-air update in the Settings app. As usual, if the update does not immediately appear for download, keep checking, as it sometimes takes a few minutes to roll out to all registered developers....

According to Bloomberg, Apple is currently considering the purchase of Hulu. The popular online video playing service has reportedly been up for sale for a few months now, with potential buyers like Google in the running. Adding Apple to the mix just spices things up with Apple’s $76 billion in the bank and hints at some “neat” new iTunes-related features. Apple also has their Apple TV platform, which they are still exploring, and this potential Hulu purchase would take that to the next level....

We may finally have a reason for why Apple Stores and some other stores are installing new NFC payment hardware ahead of the iPhone 6 launch. Apple is reportedly planning on implementing a security feature called tokenzation in the system, which removes the necessity to transmit account numbers or other critical personal details wirelessly (via Bank Innovation). This tokenization system employs secure codes become useless after being used once. That boosts security by ensuring that any information captured by nefarious third-parties doesn’t give them access to your account or money....

Apple is rolling out a small but useful improvement to developers today. It has overhauled the Payments and Financial Reports section of iTunes Connect with a modern interface and new design that combines all relevant financial numbers into one table. This screen was long overdue for a redesign, until today featuring ugly iOS 5 era buttons and textured backgrounds. Apple has announced that July was a record setting month for App Store revenue following its earnings report last month where the company reported strong iTunes results for the three-month period that ended June (via CNBC). One day after sending out invites to press in the US for its iPhone event scheduled for September 10 in Cupertino, Apple has just sent invites to Chinese media outlets inviting press to a special event in Beijing on September 11. Attached to the invite (above) is the same image and tagline hinting at iPhones in various colors that Apple included on the invites for its US event. Not only will it be the first time Apple hosts such an event in China, it is also a good indication that China Mobile, the world’s largest telecom, could soon finally announce a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to its approximately 700M subscribers....
