As part of its recent environmental campaign, Apple has taken out some tongue-in-cheek full-page print advertising in newspapers around the world today. The ad reads ‘There are some things we want every company to copy’. The ad was first spotted by David McClelland on Twitter. (Hi-res version below:) The ad also has been seen in Germany. The ad highlights Apple’s commitment to its green energy plans and environmental sustainability. The ad is phrased as a clear jab at Samsung, reading: ‘There’s one area where we actually encourage others to imitate us’....

Update: Live webcast will be at www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/earningsq413 Apple will hold its quarterly earnings call to announce results on October 28th, as noted on Apple’s investor website. Typically, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer will read prepared statements about the company’s performance, before opening the call to a question and answer session for analysts. The call will begin at 2PM Pacific / 5PM Eastern time. Apple will publish a press release reporting their results about half an hour before the call is due to begin....

The launch of Apple Pay, Apple’s NFC and Touch ID-based mobile payment solution, is upon us. Apple has begun preparing for the launch by kicking off Apple Pay training programs for its own group of retail store employees and by working with retailers to prepare for the debut later this month. The training materials, shared by a reliable source, for the Apple Pay launch at Apple retail stores have also detailed some new specifics regarding the Apple Pay setup and transaction processes both on customer iPhones and in Apple retail stores…...

In an unlisted video, Apple is promoting the new iPad Pro with the series “Your next computer is not a computer.” This time, the company creates a parody of The Little Mermaid’s “Part of Your World” song. The ad was found by a Twitter user early this morning. Apparently, it was uploaded on June 3, before WWDC21 and the iPadOS 15 announcement. The video shows lots of different situations where people have to deal with cable management, boring office days, while others are using the brand new iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard in the sun and in a cafeteria freely....

When Apple began reopening some of its US retail stores in May, the company promised it wouldn’t hesitate to close locations again if necessary. Following new COVID-19 spikes across the country, Apple plans to follow through and temporarily close 11 of its US stores. The US has struggled to keep COVID-19 case numbers down as states allow businesses to reopen and people attempt a return to normal life. Apple pays attention to local health data and has identified locations in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Arizona to temporarily re-close out of an abundance of caution....

Apple has just released iOS 9.3.3 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new software update is by no means as interesting or as feature-rich as iOS 10, due to be released publicly in the fall, but it includes some important bug fixes and performance improvements for iOS users. In addition to iOS 8.4, Apple has now publicly released OS X 10.10.4 to all users. The point update focuses on security and stability improvements with a fix for notable networking issues with OS X Yosemite as well as fixes for Mail, improvements to Photos migration from iPhoto and Aperture, and more. Apple first began testing the update to the Mac with developers in late April. The new OS X version is available through the Mac App Store....

Apple today released OS X 10.11 Public Beta 3 to non-developer testers trying El Capitan ahead of its public release later this fall. The latest public beta version follows the off-cycle release of OS X 10.11 developer beta 5 seeded out on Monday. Prior to these off-cycle releases, Apple typically stuck to releasing updates roughly two weeks apart. Apple last updated public beta users a week ago. OS X El Capitan includes several performance and security improvements including better window management and a new Rootless security layer....

Apple is rolling out the third iOS 10.3 beta for developer testing on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The upcoming software update includes Find My AirPods support, CarPlay improvements, Apple’s new filesystem, and more. RIM CEO Jim Balsillie used a speech at Web 2.0 to issue one of his company’s attacks on Apple, saying, “You don’t need an app for the Web’. Some may recall Apple CEO Steve Jobs in 2007 who said the future for app development on the iPhone rested with the Web. He faced a hail of criticism, Apple changed tack and launched the App Store, and the rest is history....

Update: Zdnet Korea reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung’s JK Shin met in the US last week ahead of the companies returning to court in San Jose next month. The unconfirmed, translated report appears to claims the executives were asked by the courts to reach an agreement by Feb. 19, but the case looks set to go ahead after settlement talks reportedly failed. Apple’s head of marketing will be called to the stands by Samsung in the latest patent dispute between the rival companies....

This past summer, the ability to order large acrylic, canvas, and metal prints arrived on the Photos app for Mac with the Mimeo integration. Now the company is expanding its lineup even further with Mac users able to transform photos into personalized puzzles and blankets. Apple doesn’t offer its own printing option within its Photos app for Mac anymore but it handed off the functionality to third-parties and the integration into Apple’s app feels about as native as possible....

Apple today has uploaded a handful of new Apple Watch videos to its YouTube channel. The new videos cover a range of topics, including how to stream Apple Music on Apple Watch, how to use the Walkie-Talkie functionality, and more. In total, Apple has shared six Apple Watch videos today. Each video is roughly 30 seconds long and focuses on a single feature of the Apple Watch. The topics covered include how to customize your watch face, how to view your Activity rings, how to use Walkie-Talkie, how to customize your workout metrics, how to locate your iPhone, and how to stream Apple Music....

Apple is now sharing updated data about its effort to be a more inclusive and diverse company. On its Diversity page, Apple brings its effort to become “a better reflection of the world we live in.” According to the data, the number of employees from underrepresented communities (URCs) has increased by 64%, or over 18,000 people, and makes up nearly 50% of Apple’s U.S. workforce. There is an increase of Hispanics, Latinos, and Black employees in the U....

Coinciding with a media preview of Apple’s new retail store in Tokyo’s bustling Shinjuku shopping district, the company has shared new photos of the facility ahead of its 10 a.m. grand opening this coming Saturday. We first learned that Apple Shinjuku was set to open on April 7th in March, when a neon-themed banner on Apple’s website announced the date. More recently, colorful and animated neon signage was placed on temporary window coverings outside the store....

Update: Apple’s deal with Cash Money Records isn’t for exclusive Apple Music content, but rather for an exclusive documentary, reports Bloomberg. Apple today has inked a new deal with one of the most popular music labels, Cash Money Records. The co-founder of the label, Birdman, posted on Instagram confirming the deal, sharing a picture of himself with Apple Music executive Larry Jackson. “It’s official…Cash Money makes a power move with Apple Music,” Birdman’s Instagram post said....

Apple this evening has stopped signing three previous versions of iOS following the release of iOS 11.2.5 last week. Specifically, the company has stopped signing iOS 11.2, iOS 11.2.1, and iOS 11.2.2 for all devices… Apple regularly stops signing older iOS firmware versions in an effort to ensure that the majority of users are on the most recent releases. When the company closes signing for a specific version, it means users are no longer able to downgrade to that version....

According to a new report from The Irish Times this week, Apple is set to be a bit more transparent about its finances in Ireland. The report says that Apple has changed its operational status in Ireland and will now be required to file full annual accounts. This comes after the EU ruled that Apple’s arrangement with Ireland was illegal and ordered the company to pay $14.3 billion in back taxes....

Apple drew a lot of attention earlier this year when it debuted its own blog dedicated to updating developers on Swift, its programming language for building Mac and iOS apps first introduced at WWDC in June. The blog has since been used to share updates on the state of Swift as well as technical details about the programming language, but today Apple posted an official video tutorial (embedded below) targeted for new Swift developers on using the language and Xcode to build an app for iOS from scratch....
