After winning a pair of Daytime Emmy Awards earlier this week, Apple TV+ has now scored its first-ever Primetime Emmy nominations. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations for the 72nd annual Emmy Awards this morning, and Apple TV+ received 18 nominations. Apple’s flagship original series The Morning Show received seven nominations. Jennifer Aniston was nominated in the “Best Actress in a Drama Series” category for her role as Alex Levy....

Apple has issued a minor bug fix update to both AirPort Utility on OS X and on iOS. The OS X Update is available via Software Update on the Mac App Store, while the iOS version is in the App Store on iOS and iTunes. Apple has released iOS 14.2 beta 2 to registered developers, coming two weeks after the release of the first iOS 14.2 beta. Other new releases from Apple today include macOS 11 Big Sur beta 9 and watchOS 7.1 beta 2. iOS 14.2 beta 2 is available to developers via an over-the-air update in the Settings app. As usual, if the update does not immediately appear for download, keep checking as it sometimes takes a few minutes to roll out to all registered developers....
Just after releasing iOS 6.1 beta 4 to developers yesterday, Apple has released iOS 6.0.2 to the masses this afternoon. The update is only for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini and seems minor, as the folks in Cupertino said the update simply addresses bugs including a Wi-Fi bug that has plagued many users. Apple has released iOS 8.1.2 as an over-the-air software update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users running iOS 8. Apple has released a third beta version of iOS 9.2 for developers and public beta testu users to try. The two previous builds of this operating system introduced support for AT&T’s new NumberSync system and changes to embedded Safari browsers that allow them to load all extensions. It also adds Arabic language support to Siri. The new build is available from the Software Update section of the Settings app on devices running a previous developer build, or from the Developer Center for those on a public release....

When Apple and Twitter announced Ping Twitter integration many users quickly noticed the length of the tweeted URL’s from Ping. San Francisco-based Mission Motorcycles, a maker of high-end electric motorcycles, recently filed for bankruptcy amid financial troubles. In the filing, current CEO Mark Seeger said the company is so low on cash that it can’t afford to pay for an attorney for the bankruptcy process, but while recently talking with Reuters, former CEO Derek Kaufman dismissed the company’s lack of money and instead blamed Mission’s demise on Apple’s poaching of top engineers… Rumors are all but confirmed that Apple has been developing its own electric vehicle under Project Titan and Kaufman wouldn’t be the first person deploring Apple’s hiring efforts for the project....

As the world grows ever more curious at what Apple will reveal at its keynote event today, and commentators ponder a Sky News report in which Yoko Ono said music from The Beatles will indeed make it to iTunes, Apple has quietly applied price cuts across its existing iPod touch range. While Apple has been hit with a number of lawsuits recently, the company has now filed one of its own against a French activist group over an episode that occurred in an Apple Store in France. French publication The Local reports that Apple is suing Attac (the Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and Aid to Citizens) for the relatively small amount of €3,000 (about $3,600). This comes after 100 members of the group publicly protested Apple’s tax practices by occupying the Paris flagship Apple Store last month on December 2nd....
iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad have long missed out on 1080P HD video playback through their respective native video viewing applications. In iOS 5, Apple is looking to change all that as 1080P video now syncs to the iPad 2 and is playable in the full 1080P format. Prior to iOS 5, iTunes would not even sync video of the 1080P quality. Apple is to make Xcode available for local download from servers based in China as part of its response to the XcodeGhost malware issue. The announcement was made on the Chinese social media site Sina by Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of worldwide marketing (via CNET). It’s believed that many Chinese developers inadvertently downloaded the fake version because the official download was taking too long. Analysis of infected apps by security researchers appears to be revealing a mix of good and bad news … “In the US it only needs 25 minutes to download,” Schiller told Sina, admitting that in China getting Xcode “may take three times as long....
