Apple is in the process of updating the iPod touch units used by Apple Store employees as a mobile point-of-sale system to the iPhone 5s, according to sources familiar with the roll out. Apple first started using its iPod touch as an “EasyPay” system for employees in its retail stores back in 2009 and currently uses 4th gen iPod touch or previous models for staff. It uses a point-of-sale attachment for the iPod touch that adds a magnetic stripe reader, barcode scanning functionality, and more....

Apple’s long-awaited retail location inside the World Trade Center now has an opening date. The company announced today that the store, its 10th in New York City, will open in less than a week on Tuesday, August 16th. On the store’s info page, Apple teases that it has “something special in store” for customers. As we initially reported earlier this year, the World Trade Center Apple Store will be located in the the lower level shopping section of the Oculus Transportation Hub....

Apple today has started transitioning Apple.com to its San Francisco font. As you can see in the comparison image below, Apple has transitioned most of the font on its site to San Francisco, though some parts remain unchanged. San Francisco is, of course, the font Apple designed and released to developers back in 2014. San Francisco was first applied to the Apple Watch interface and made its way to macOS and iOS in 2015....

Apple TV+ was thrilled to become the first streaming service to get awards recognition within its first year of operations, and now it can add an Emmy to the list. Out of The Morning Show’s eight Emmy nominations, it picked up a win for Billy Crudup as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Apple ran aggressive Hollywood campaigns to try and garner industry accreditation. So far, The Morning Show has made its mark with Golden Globe nominations, Critics Choice win, a SAG award win for star Jennifer Aniston, and more....

Apple today resumed production for season two of For All Mankind, one of the original series of its Apple TV+ streaming service. The company had interrupted the production and filming of its shows earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For All Mankind is a science fiction series in which the characters are part of an alternative story where the Soviet Union succeeds in first landing a man on the moon....

iOS 8 is likely to supercharge the functionality of Apple’s iPad with a new split-screen multitasking feature, according to sources with knowledge of the enhancement in development. These people say that the feature will allow iPad users to run and interact with two iPad applications at once. Up until now, each iPad application either developed by Apple or available on the App Store is only usable individually in a full-screen view....

Apple today released Logic Pro X 10.4.2 alongside MainStage 3.4 on the Mac App Store with a number of new features and enhancements. Head below to see what’s new. Both updates bring a long list of new improvements including the ability to relocate the apps’ Sound Library to an external storage device, while MainStage gets a few big features that previously came to Logic. One of those updates for MainStage is the inclusion of new sounds and features in the Sound Library itself and the app also gets access to a few notable new plug-ins (full list below) that were previously launched for Logic users....

Apple has released macOS 10.12.2 beta 3 for Mac. The new update follows the initial macOS 10.12.2 beta at the end of October, followed by a slightly updated build earlier this month, and macOS 10.12.2 beta 2. Today’s build comes at version 16C48b over 16C41b and is available from the Mac App Store. Aside from being a mouthful of numbers, macOS 10.12.2 includes Unicode 9.0 emoji support, which matches compatibility in beta versions of iOS 10....

A new report from Music Business Worldwide claims that Apple has recently hired four producers from BBC Radio 1. This report comes two months after it was announced that Zane Lowe was leaving the British radio station to take a new position at Apple. According to today’s report, the recent Apple hires include James Bursey, Natasha Lynch and Kieran Yeates, as well as one other. Bursey was Zane Lowe’s old producer at Radio 1 and has been at the station since 2003....

Apple is rolling out the second macOS 10.12.4 beta for developer testing. The upcoming version of macOS Sierra is the first to bring Night Shift to the Mac. macOS Sierra 10.12.4 beta is currently only available to developers and public beta testers. Public beta versions usually come a few days after developer versions if not the same day. macOS 10.12.4 beta also includes changes to Siri, Dictation, and Apple’s PDF API:...

Who Can Update? iOS 13 is the first iOS version that doesn’t support iPads. Instead, tablet users will have to wait until later this month when the first public version of iPadOS 13 arrives. The update is compatible with the recently announced iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple employees Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre have been planning an undergraduate academy for entrepreneurs at the University of Southern California for a few years now, and this week the Beats co-founders officially broke ground for the project, ABC reports. Named the “Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation,” the 10,000-square foot academy is expected to open fall 2019 with a focus on art and design, engineering and computer science, and business....

TechCrunch claims to have also heard that Apple is planning a late-January event that will focus on its media-related business. The event, first reported this morning, is said to involve Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue. Cue’s responsibilities range from the App Store, iTunes Store, iAd, iCloud, and iBooks. TechCrunch’s report adds some new tidbits: they said that Apple’s late-January event will not feature any hardware at all (previously said to lack mention of a new iPad or television), but will rather be solely about iBooks and publishing....

SEC filings show that Angela Ahrendts had half of her first allocation of AAPL stock withheld on 1st June – the day it vested, and just one month after joining the company – reports ComputerWorld. The full value of her stock, which is likely to vest (become eligible for sale) over several years, will add up to $78.5M at the current share price. Her total compensation in her final year as CEO of Burberry was $4....

Apple’s TV lineup is continuing to fill out with new original content projects being approved. The latest show-to-be, according to Variety, is called Home and will be a documentary series based on ‘extraordinary’ houses and their creators. Variety says the series will include 10 episodes to start, each lasting one hour. The docuseries joins a roster of already-approved shows destined for Apple’s upcoming TV service. A reboot of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories sci-fi series was the first to be picked up, followed by a morning show drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon....

Apple has seeded iCloud Control Panel 2.0 for Windows to developers, and it adds a series of important enhancements for iCloud users with PCs. Apple is seeking employees from its own retail stores who have shown an enthusiasm for photography to test the upcoming OS X Photos application and iCloud Photos feature. Apple, last week, reached out to retail employees offering such a “career experience,” and here is the message to retail staff as provided by multiple retail employees: Apple typically offers career experience programs for retail employees that have worked at Apple for at least one year....

The iPhone X is now available around the world. The first customers started getting their hands on the device late last night and now Apple has shared a gallery of images showcasing the first users to successfully pick one up from a retail store… Apple shared a slew of images in a press release this morning showing customers in London, Dubai, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney, and more locations celebrating thier successful iPhone X purchase....

Apple shuttle drivers – the people who drive the buses who normally ferry staff to work – are still being paid their full wages during the coronavirus shutdown, but the Teamsters union says that it had more trouble agreeing with the iPhone maker than any other tech company … Business Insider reports. Some Apple contractors were initially told they would not be paid before Apple confirmed that they would be treated as employees....

On schedule, the Apple Online Store has gone down ahead of the media event later today. The website reads ‘We can’t wait to show you what we have in store’. At 10 AM PT in Cupertino, Apple will hold its March press event. The company is expected to announce a new 4 inch iPhone, dubbed the iPhone SE, as well as a 9.7 inch iPad Pro and updates to its Apple Watch line....
